General usage rules
General site rules of conduct; Everyone has their own point of view and thoughts on many subjects, and we should all respect that unless a) there are known facts that counter a point of view or claim, or b) the point of view is against the general view of the OSA (outlined herein.) We encourage intelligent and logical discussions of topics, but reserve the right to close or end them if they get out of hand. If you are passionate and strongly embrace a particular topic, then you need to be tolerant of those that may not feel as you do, and practice courtesy and respect when arguing your point of view. Keep in mind that you may have to end your topic by agreeing to disagree and leave it at that. Attacking someone personally is not tolerated in any form, however "bantering" is fine with those that you know personally, and know they will not take offense.
Expletives (swear words) are generally not allowed. Mild ones may be used but should be used in moderation. We're all adults here, Many people are deeply offended by vulgar language. We are a family-oriented site here, so if you feel you must swear to get your point across, please censor your language appropriately so as to not be overly offensive. (e.g., "S***!")
Derogatory insults commonly known as "flaming" are strictly against the rules. If you disagree with another member's point of view, do so in a mature, intelligent and civil manner. If someone posts to discuss their personal problems or seek help from other forum members, please do not respond unless you have something positive or helpful to add. If you find yourself being flamed or insulted by another member, please do not dignify that person with a response. Instead, notify a moderator and let us handle it. If you feel you must respond to a flame or insult directly, please do NOT do so publicly on the message board. Use private messages or e-mail. That's what it's there for.
Threads or replies promoting or expressing intolerant views towards minorities, or race, religion, sexual preference, etc. will not be tolerated. Posts making threats of physical violence, Stalking, or similar activity will not be tolerated. The offending threads will be copied to a storage location and your IP address recorded.
Porn, nudity, and sex-related material is strictly against policy and is not welcome here.
"Free posts", or posting solely for the purpose of boosting your post count is not welcome here.
*Please do not put animations in your signature line.
It's okay to post some of that stuff in your thread, but keep it out of the signature line.*
Please post your topics in the most appropriate topic related forum. If you post a thread that would be more appropriate in another forum, a moderator may move it for you, or if you accidentally posted in the wrong forum, you can request a moderator to move the thread. Use your judgment to determine which forum(s) best suits your topic. If you are dealing with a topic that could appropriately fit in more than one forum, you may post it in multiple forums. Multiple posting or cross-posting should be held to a maximum of 2 forums.
Controversial topics, such as religion, abortion, retardation, racism, etc., should generally be avoided. Although these topics usually start out civil enough, experience has shown that these sort of topics can very quickly disintegrate into personal attacks and heated arguments.
We neither condone, endorse, nor tolerate any illegal activity of any kind, including but not limited to discussions of any illegal activity or blatent unpatriotic behavior. We strive to be 100% within the law and when in doubt, reserve the right to err on the side of safety.
"Poop" threads, or similarly immature and offensive topics (graphic sex, specific sex act, violence, snuff films, dead bodies, or violent sexual acts) will not be allowed.
Threads/replies promoting illicit drugs/narcotics will not be allowed.
Threads or replies encouraging any illegal/unethical action (like "Best way to kill neighbor's dog?") will not be allowed. This also includes threads about using and/or obtaining illegal copies of copyrighted material such as software, music, videos, and sharing registration and license keys of copyrighted material.
Threads or replies attacking Oklahoma Shooters Association policies will not be allowed.
Direct, persistent or purposeful “cop bashing” or bashing emergency services in general is not allowed here. Referring to a LEO, cop, policeman, etc is appropriate but unproven defamatory remarks or titles will not be tolerated. Know your facts before you post and leave the emotion behind. Due to the nature of our organization, we have many law enforcement and emergency services people who post here. Please be respectful of the people who put their lives on the line to make our world a safer place.
Any OSA poster that posts malicious or harmful URL links that cause: other Member’s PCs to become locked or have to be rebooted in order for the PC to regain functionality (Like the link to the "You're an idiot" page that ends up spawning countless little browser windows dancing all over your screen) “screaming”, (cannot be viewed safely for content or sound at work) Violation of the Harmful links policy constitutes an immediate 3 day ban from the site. Further infractions of this rule could result in permanent ban.
No blind links. Thread titles or original post must contain some description of what the post is about, and what the link goes to. Initial offenses will be deleted, further offenses will be given infractions - or temporarily banned - depending on severity and frequency. This includes youtube, armslist, craigslist or any site other than okshooters.com.
No perpetual polls. All posted polls must have a close date, this should be less than 30 days typically, only longer if specifically appropriate to the poll; ie, "How do you expect to vote on Nov 2" posted in late August would make sense to have a 60 day limit, but not 90. Polls without close dates will be closed immediately.
Posting a thread or reply to question or criticize moderator or administrator actions is not appropriate in a public forum. Please utilize the board's Private Message function, or e-mail, if you wish to discuss these issues. As long as you bring up your concerns maturely and civilly to the moderator or administrator in question, we will do our best to address your concerns fairly and promptly.
Here are the "Do's" and "Don'ts" of addressing your concerns to moderators or administrators: "Do" be civil and polite. Bring up your concerns in a mature, intelligent and respectful manner. If you are contacting us because you violated forum guidelines, be adult enough to admit your mistake, and understand we have rules here for a reason. If your ID has been locked for some reason, talking politely to us about it in private, via e-mail or private message, can get your ID reinstated in many cases.
Posting of a person's personal information, such as place of employment, pictures, names, etc. without their consent is strictly prohibited.
Using the OSA e-mail link or the OSA Message Board PM process to send threats of violence, racial attacks, personal or sexually harassing messages is prohibited. You will be warned once and the 2nd offense is 7 days restriction from the board. You may also be banned permanently depending upon the severity. Anyone that feels they are a victim of this problem should immediately contact a moderator or a site Administrator for assistance. DO NOT DELETE THE MESSAGE(S) Please keep the offending message(s) on hand so that you can forward them to the Administrator, as evidence, for action against the perpetrator.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
I'm seeing this question a lot in e-mail to the site.
The Classifieds are a benefit for privileged OSA members and support for our community. When you join OSA, your account is in a "probationary" mode and you can not immediately post in the Classifieds section, but can post almost anywhere else.
The following criteria must be met for you to be considered for access to the classifieds section: You must be a member in good standing for at least one full month or more, and have participated in our community so you have a post count of at least 20 or higher. After this criteria has been met, your account will be reviewed and granted the priviledge of being able to post in our classifieds areas. (Yes, we read all your posts.)
Keep in mind that this privilege can be revoked temporarily or permanently for infractions in this area. Please read through the rules carefully before posting once you have been granted access. You'll find all the rules for the area at the top of each Classifieds forum area.
Note: This site is for supporting our Firearm community, and as such is supported by that same community. If you are here only to sell stuff in our Classifieds and have no interest in being part of our community, then you will probably find your access revoked or not instated at all. We are not looking for more new people to post in our classifieds, we're looking for people to join and participate in our family-oriented community. If you are only interested in selling stuff through our Classifieds, then please join and use e-Bay instead.
