I had an incident today north at Perkins, at the intersection of 177&33. Ran my car off a road and into a ditch of standing water. Couldn't drive out and couldn't be pulled out. While I was waiting on a buddy in a 4x4 with a winch to some pull me out, someone called it in and two officers show up. One was a K9 officer out of Perkins and the other was an Iowa tribe officer in a truck. I did my duty and informed the Perkins officer that I was licensed and carrying. He just said OK and carried on. The tribal officer just asked if it was in the car to which I replied it was on my hip. He looked at my bulge and continued. Well I got pulled out and the LEOs left.

I just want to report an interaction with two officers who were courteous and cool. They didn't bat an eye that I was carrying. So if those two officers are on here and read this...thanks for being a decent example of law enforcement. :)

And thanks Sparky2 for bailing me out...err...winching me out.

I want to do a test by calling or emailing on a regular basis to see if persistent inquiring will cause them to process it faster or not, cause friends that have got thiers in the last month has taken 90 days or over to get it with no inquires. What would a reasonable time in between inquiries to seem like a concerned citizen and not a PITA?

Maybe it IS true that sitting through a class, paying money and an OSBI background check tends to select for those that tend to make reasonable choices, carry safely and choose CC over OC most, if not all of the time?

(Not a dig on OC, just an observation that OC is rare at best, compared to the number of licenses currently held)

Hi all,

I have been hanging around the site over the past month...great resource! My wife and I are both waiting for our liscences...hopefully the mailman will bring them in the next few weeks!!!

We are both looking for carry guns. At least that is my current thinking. I have a 4.25" 1911. I am assuming it will be a lot of gun to carry, especially in the warmer months with lighter clothing. Am I on track with my thinking? Or will the 1911 disappear in a good IWB holster? With shorts and a polo shirt?

My wife has been trying/picking up/looking at a lot of smaller 9mm guns. Recoil from a small pocket sized 9 hasn't been an issue for her. Heck, she shoots my 1911 better than I do...she just complains that it is such a heavy gun. She really likes the sig 938...although she hasn't shot it yet. Hoping to get to shoot one soon. She is also looking at the M&P Shield and the Kahr CM 9. Is she headed down the right road? She will likely carry with a belly band holster a majority of the time.

I am anxious to gear up so we are ready. However, I don't want to go spend $$$$ on what i THINK will work only to find out that reality dictates something different. I am looking for you all's opinions since there seem to be a lot of folks with CC experience.

Thanks in advance!

For the sake of discussion this is purely fiction. Put yourself in the place of the shooter. What would you do?

A friend, his wife, and young daughter were camping during the week at a private campground, it was only them and 1 other RV at the grounds. The friend was talking to the campground owner when a car came zooming in, she called out to slow down and he flashed his surefire at them. That seemed to be the end of it.
About an hour later back at the RV he heard someone outside calling "Hey spotlight". He stepped out to see two 30 something males aout 35 yards aways approaching him. He shined his very bright light at them told them he didn't want any trouble and just to go back the way the way they came. The kept approaching taunting him.
At this point things started to escalate, he was armed concealed and his family was in the RV behind them. He called out several times for them to stop, they didn't. When they broke the 20 yard mark he drew his gun ordered them to the ground. One of the guys said "I've ben shot before go ahead an shoot me!" and they kept approaching. His wife was inside the RV on the phone calling the sheriff. At this point he felt an imminentinet threat and was screaming at the top of his lungs to get down or he would shoot. For whatever reason even he can't explain he fired a shot into the ground to the side and a bit in fromt of himself . Not at them, clearly a warning shot. At this point they got on the ground. He told them the Sheriff was on the way and if they got up he would kill them.
Not sure how long had passed but I was under the impression it was less than a minute they both got up and went back the way they came. By the time the sheriff and HP arrived they were gone. I suspect once they heard the sheriff was on the way they wanted out of there.
They showed no weapons or implied they had any. However, aggressive stance and unwillingness to retreat caused fear of at least great bodily harm. Shooting these guys was the last thing he wanted to do and he never thought he would fire a warning shot if put in the situation of having to draw his weapon, but that is what happened. In this case it worked.
The police took a report, the deputy was the lead and came back the next day wanting pictures of the gun and was talking about confiscating it. The Sheriff (his boss) asked why he didn't arrest the shooter, for what wasn't quite clear. The Deputy and I suppose the Sheriff thought the shot was fired AT them. In the end no charges were filed and the guys never surfaced.

I asked him I was correctly posted because I don't see the sign or I wouldn't have walked in, or if this was his own political agenda, and he said yeah we put it a in the lower right corner if the door near the ground.
As I was leaving I told next time put it on the ceiling so know one could see it.

Looking for ideas ... if you need to leave your carry in your parked car or truck for a while, where do you put it? A locking glove box would be the obvious solution, but not all vehicles have any locking compartments inside. So do you just drop it in the door pocket and not worry about it, or?

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, more than 46,000 applications were submitted for handgun licenses in 2012. The bureau approved 85 percent of those, licensing 15,854 more gun owners than the previous year.

Despite the jump, law enforcement officials in Tulsa and nearby counties could not recall any problematic incidents.

"We've not been responding to any calls, we've not had any complaints, we've not been taking reports. No, no issues here," said Maj. Shannon Clark with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Department.

As of May 15, representatives with sheriff's departments in Tulsa, Osage, Wagoner, Rogers and Okmulgee counties, as well as the Tulsa and Broken Arrow police departments, had not experienced any problems related to lawful open carry.
