I'm thinking of ideas to make a kit that holds repair parts and cleaning equipment all in the butt-stock of an AR-15, A2 style of course. But cant think of some sort of container or bag that will hold it all whilst still fitting into the butt-stock.

Also what else would I need besides replacement springs and bolt parts?

Thanks guys! Cheers!

Just finished adding lights to a new safe for a friend, used something I hadn't before so thought I'd share. All the stuff came from Amazon, vendor "HitLights".

Red LED Strip Light, 5 Meter Spool, 12VDC, $13.99
PCB Strip to Strip Connector - 4/pk - $6.99
On/Off Switch Connector, Female DC Plug - $2.49
60 Watt LED Power Supply - $15.99

Total: $39.46 (all "free shipping")

The above stuff and a couple of hours time should be all you need to install light strips around the entire door of most safes - the strips are adhesive backed and put out a reasonable amount of light, the strip to strip connectors are used at each corner, and the on/off switch connects the last strip to the power supply cord.

He could have saved another $6 or so if he'd opted for the 24 Watt "wall wart" power supply instead of the one above that's made more like a laptop power supply.

You will, of course, still need some way to get power into your safe - unless you want to do a battery setup inside the safe - one 12v or two 6v lantern batteries should run these for quite a long time - or even 8 D-Cells in holders available from Radio Shack could be velcro'd to the side wall if you prefer that option.

This doesn't include a "refrigerator switch" to turn them on and off as the door opens, but that's not something that's particularly difficult to lash up either. Mostly I just wanted to pass this on as it's seemed easy enough and was comparatively economical. While we used red on his, I notice the same lights come in Green, Blue, and White as well as weatherproof versions at slightly higher price.

Hope it helps!

Didn't quite know where to put this. Mods if this ain't it feel free to move. I did a little corrosion test on some of the popular products out there. I was mostly curious about Froglube and Fireclean because I've been using both lately and like both very much for their resistance to carbon buildup and ease of cleaning. I was just curious as to their corrosion protection and how they compared with the others which I was already familiar with. Bottom line is they both impressed me very much. Froglube is my primary lube now.

I started this test on February 6, 2013. Here are the products and the panel that I used. It is a computer case panel that I solvent wiped with a wax and degreaser followed by wiping with acetone. I then power sanded it with 80 grit emory sandpaper, and cleaned it again thoroughly with acetone. I then applied the products. On the Froglube, I tested both the liquid and paste versions two different ways. I heated the panel with a hair dryer, applied each, let it set for 30 minutes and wiped it all off with a clean and unused micro fibre towel. I also applied each Froglube product just like the label instructions say leaving a light film (with no heat prior), IOW just right out of the container. All other products were applied and a very light film left on the surface. This panel has been outside in my backyard in the open air, exposed directly to snow, sleet, rain, hail, fog and morning dew ever since 2/6/2013. It has been wet more times than I care count.

The products:

The Panel right before application:

Over 30 days later (March 10)

Almost 3.5 MONTHS later (pic taken today)

As you can see the Froglube paste is out performing even the Mobil 1 motor oil and it seems at least equal to Eezox if not better. In other words, simply outstanding! I would also mention that the Fireclean held up well for a very long time and the CLP started rusting almost as fast as the control patch which had absolutely nothing on it. I was pretty skeptical of the whole Froglube "seasoning" thing that you see all over youtube and Froglube's website but it would seem that there may actually be something to it. The only patch on this panel that is still rust free is the Froglube paste that was heated, applied, allowed to set and cool and then wiped completely off! You can draw your own conclusions...

FYI, The patch at the center/bottom has no Froglube applied BELOW those vent holes, that area is bare.

Anyone tried any of these and have any thoughts or advice they'd like to share? Any trouble having your regular optometrist write the prescription, or did you have to go to someone special? I know that computer glasses with the "reading" portion at the top are pretty common, but haven't seen any of the local labs advertising these.

Thanks!

I got the Engle Deep Blue 65 in white, not a fan of the tan, if it were more of an FDE maybe? But tan coolers tend to look like dirty lake water. Gonna use it on the lake for Memorial and see how it runs. Even the Igloo Ultra Marines cant keep ice overnight on the lake, and we have a lot of stairs down to the dock. I dont expect it to keep ice 8 days in that weather, but hope it lasts through the weekend, if it is, I'll be ecstatic, as I wont have to buy 6-8 bags of ice, and lug stuff up and down those stairs all weekend. I need to start a blog and post a review. I'll follow up in this thread with my initial impressions, and a more thorough review once I use it.

I've been thinking of a Fisher Space (bullet) pen on the keychain, but my keychain is already kind of bulky. I've seen the TEC Accessories Pico-Pen (which looks cool), but does anyone else carry a smaller pen in their EDC?
I'm not really looking for a huge scary tactical pen, just something smaller that I can snap on the keychain and forget about it until I need it.
It covers the sights with an excess of 5/8" of an inch and does not cover the frame completely. Did they cut this one correctly? I only have one other holster with a strap and it is for a revolver. I'm trying to decide whether to take it back or not.

I'm in the market for a new, bigger gun safe, as over the past 2 months, I have filled mine up, and now have a few guns stored in the closet...

I went up to H&H tonight and the wife and I looked at a few Heritage models, but they were really low on stock, and only had a few different of their highest end models.

Can anyone recommend a brand of safe they have and really like? Or any brands to stay away from? I'm wanting to spend less than $1,500, and need the capacity to be at least 20+ rifles, and would prefer if it came with, or had the option for a door panel for handgun storage.
