what do you all think about the .223 for deer in oklahoma? i have used everything from .223 to .303 but i use my .223 more than anyother caliber. i have been told many times that .243 is not even big enough for deer but i have never had any problems so i just want to get some different intake on this.

Oklahoma deer aren't all that big most of the time....its not like you are hunting mule deer up in wyoming or colorado. I have not used anything other than my 7mm Mauser when I go, my dad uses a 7mm Mag, and my brother uses a 30-30.

I would use a heavy weight soft point bullet if using .223 Remington. That should work pretty well. Of course, it's all about shot placement. I can report that 1 round of 200 grn .45 ACP Speer Gold Dot worked great. And no, it wasn't an up close head shot. This was out of a Sig P-220.
.223 will work fine.
As with any cliber, good shot placemwnt counts.
Personally i prefer to send 'em a good 100gr Magnus Stinger. ;)

just be careful not to use any of the highly frangible varmint loads.....you could end up not making clean kills.

.243 is just fine for OKlahoma Whitetail deer.
I have never had a deer take step when shot with a .243.
.223 should be fine also, as stated use a a heavy grain bullet with a soft nose.

Yeah go for it! Heavier bullet and a well placed shot should do the trick! :thumb:
