I am thinking about buying a 22 can for my 10/22. Who makes a good one? I know a couple of members are class III dealers. What price range am I looking at? I guess I am getting a small NFA bug. I can't afford to get it very bad. If I didn't I would be broke more then I am now. :)

I think the Gemtech Outback II is the best bang for the buck. Should be able to get it for well under $300, but don't forget to figure in the $200 tax to ATF.

I've got the Tactical Innovations TAC-65 and love it. It is quiet and easy to clean.

I remember the tax. Wish they didn't have one but oh well. I guess it is the price you pay to have more fun.
I could build one but thought about doing a little comparison between the one I am getting ready to build (waiting on paperwork to come back) and one that I purchase.
Next question. Where is a good place to call locally that has good prices? From what I have seen the prices vary depending on who you talk to.

I used Bill Stover in Yukon. He got me my AAC M4-2000, YHM Cobra and Gemtech Outback II. Prices were all well below retail. He is a member here as well (username Stoverarms).

I would really like to know who has the best prices locally on cans as well. There are several of my buds at the PD wanting to scratch the NFA bug as well. Primarily we've been looking at Outback II's and AAC M4-2000's. This would be a good opportunity for local Class III's to get some repeat business if the price is right!
My SWR Warlock is the quietest suppressor that I have ever heard, ever. I am about to send it back to SWR to have it upgraded to the Warlock QD model however.
Chad Pope at PCA in Shawnee is a good guy with fair prices. I know that he has done some volume sales to some of the PDs around the state. One thing however, he has a bias against AAC and you might have to argue with him before he will get one for you. I purchased two SWR suppressors from him and both were hassle free and reasonably priced. I would not trade either can for AAC or anyone else's can either.
He does stock Gemtech and SWR. He has told me that he will get me AAC stuff, but gripes about their customer service ever time I ask about them. I would use him more often if I was not so far away from Shawnee.

Get with Tom out at the firing pin. I think he has one in stock that you could look at.
I've got a Tac-64 from Tactical Innovations that I can show you if you want to see it. It's quiet except for the "First round pop" when I use it on my Walther P-22.
When I use it on my 10-22 or my bolt action .22, you can hear the action work and then the sound of the bullet impact. . The one Tom has is quieter than mine.

SWEET, I emailed SWR about the QD conversion, I hope to get mine done in March...
I have dealt with Chad alot, good guy.
Matt Pallett at SWR quoted me $100 for the upgrade and that includes one P22 adapter. .5x28 adapters are $50 each. I am going to spend twice as much on adapters than on the upgrade.

Yup, looking forward to it.

Rob,
As we see it, it would be a poor business practice to recommend a AAC product to you or anyone else with some of the crap attitude that AAC has given us in reference to delivery times and availability. When they tell us a lie, that the product is on the shelf and they are ready to start the Form 3s to us, and then we advise the customer that we will have it in 60 days max. (transfers were taking a lot longer 1-2 years ago for the ones that do not know) Then after 120 days, we still do not have the product in hand for various reasons as in waiting on parts, waiting on finish, waiting on other bs reasons. On one order this lasted almost 1 year, so how can we in the business promote and sell you AAC products ?
I had talked to the owner Kevin when they were taking customer guns to suppress, in this case a customer wanted a slab side Ruger target gun with their intergal silencer. Kevin told me that he would start the transfer back to me as soon as they received the gun and that I would have it back in approx 45 days. 45 days then 90 days then 6 months and then some. When I would call to check the status and try and obtain a realistic date for the customer, I heard the famous "2 weeks" to they will not be running a batch of them for some time and then I got the " If you would not call so much we could work on it". So needless to say I ended up buying another AAC Ruger MKII for the customer from another dealer because I had promised him he would have it based on the response from AAC.
On the other hand you have SWR and Gemtech, they both have a solid customer service and will take time to talk to us or the customer. Either place you will have someone on the phone that understands business and wants you, the customer to be satisfied with the product.
So if you really want to buy the AAC product we would really rather that you deal with them and we will just handle the transfer. That way when the problems start it does not reflect in a negative way on us. So it is not just a bias towards AAC, it is several real life problems that we have had to deal with. If we tell you 30 days, that is realistic not just b.s., and it is impossible to do when we are lied to and in turn you would think that we lied to you. In this business you have to be able to trust the dealer correct ? And we will not stake our reputation on someone that rattles off what you want to hear so that they can get off the phone.
On the .22 caliber cans, you can not go wrong with either the Gemtech or the SWR. Both are very soild built and work very well with an excellent warranty.

I can understand trying to protect your corporate image by shielding customers from businesses that you have had prior problems with. It is a bit of a turn off however when I decide that I want another company's product based on merit of the product, damn the customer service problems, and I am forced to all but beg for it. That's what it felt like when I first started shopping for a 9mm can. In the end, I am really really happy that I ended up with a Trident rather than an Evolution. Hard to argue with him after that.
I tend to extensively research products and companies before I purchase so I am aware of AAC's past customer service issues. However, I have also heard some of their cans in person and can say that I want them. As an educated consumer, I don't tend to hold retailers accountable for problems with manufacturers. Having worked in retail, I can say that I can sympathize with you when customers want you to fix a manufacturer's problem. On the other hand, I would not expect to go buy a computer from Office Depot and expect them to warranty it when it breaks. Maybe that is the difference between me and your average, dumber than a box of rocks, consumer.
AAC has some really cool stuff coming out right now and there are several cans that I really want. Granted, I want to wait to see what SWR brings out in a QD 5.56 and a QD 7.62 before I buy the AAC counterparts. The Blackbox seems really really sweet though. Maybe the Prodigy, though my next .22 can is going to be a Norrell integral.
None of this is a slight on Chad or PCA though. I really like him and he has been great help. I really want to buy my first MG this year and I will go straight to PCA when I am ready. Likewise with several more cans....just have to wait until after tax time.

It is actually more than just a shield, AAC for what ever reason is not realistic on delivery times. Yes, they do have some very nice products available they should be honest in the first place in tell everyone the truth. There is no reason to beg, as stated Chad may have intrest in calling AAC but he will more than likely prefer that you call and order the product from them. We happy to handle a transfer from anyone for you.
I have a problem with the statement "Maybe that is the difference between me and your average, dumber than a box of rocks, consumer." I have not seen anyone that has made a purchase from us that I believe that this would be an accurate description of, not sure of where you are obtaining your information. It is in general just the other way around, most consumers will do their own reserch and form their own opinion of what fits them in performance and price range since the internet makes gathering information much easier and most have been around them somewhat.
And I do agree, the new Prodigy can looks very nice. However I see on Silencertests that they are 2 weeks behind again (several times over).
If AAC can get their customer service up to what it was several years ago, they will be a great company and I wish them well.

Okay.
.
By the way, my statement about the average consumer stems from my own sales experience in the retail environment, not your customers in particular.
Not taking it back either.

i bought a aac pilot for my p-22 from todd at H&H. it cost me right at 300 for the can and then the wonderful tax on it. i got it for the aluminum can with satinless threads for multiple .22's. i shot both the tac-65 and the pilot and the pilot was a hair quiter. thats my .5 cents
