View Full Version : Post your gunsmith.
Who do you guys recommend for a gunsmith?
I'm trying H&H's gunsmith out for the first time....we'll see how it works out.
I've only used two in my life and one is Mikey at Tulsa Gunworks.
He does some very nice Glock triggers.
I'm not really looking for any particular work,I just thought we could share a list of gunsmiths and our experiences with them.

For my Glocks I use Mike at OPS.
For any rifle work I use Officer Buddy Visser of the TPD range. He does great work on rifles and shotguns but only works by reference since he's always swamped with requests.

OPS does a great job....they also offer a pretty cool line of slide refinishing colors now.

a few years ago i took a one day gunsmith course(glock) at OCPD,taught by a retired DEA agent.best thing i did, being able to take my glock apart completely after shooting(take it down a couple of times a year only)i have found that using(wont anymore)the Remington yellow box, cheap ammo,is really dirty ammo.
I've had Chris at H&H customize two Springfield MilSpecs for me. He did a fantastic job of fitting the beavertails and milling the slides for Novak sights. Really nice work, and very reliable guns.

Chris at H&H is a cool guy. I've never had anything big done by him, but I've heard he does good work.
Chris put Trijicons on my P226 (357) while I waited,on a Saturday.
Back then, that kind of service was unheard of.

Talked to him Thursday, his hand is much better and he's getting feeling back.
I sure hope so....he's had my pistol for nearly 2 months now. Got to be rough trying to work with one hand.

Me.
Part of my interest in firearms is the mechanical aspect. I'll never be a "Real" Gunsmith, but spend more time building/ repairing/ tuning my guns than shooting them.
I've been practicing slide dovetail cutting with a home made jig and different files. Slow, yes but my last attempt was spot on. Almost ready for the next 1911 build. Taught myself checkering and slide/ frame fitting the same way. A Gunsmith would starve to death at my pace...
Keeps me out of the bars, anyway.
