Hello all. I'm about to purchase the Colt Special Combat (.45) pistol and was wondering if anybody had one and could tell me how they like it? I'd appreciate all the info possible. Thanks.

It looks really nice. It is based off a Gold Cup but the special combat has a few more features. Only negative I have heard is a couple people have had the nickel chip off the frame. I wouldn't mind having one in .38 super.

1911,

Thanks for the info. Do you have any suggestions on what to get as far as Colt .45s are concerned?

I love the Gold Cup in stainless A LOT. I would stay away from the same model in blue as it has a flattop slide and eliason sights vs. the stainless round top slide and Bomar sights. If your going to shoot the heck out of it get the Gold Cup or Gunsite model. If you want something comtempory and just pretty to look at then get the WWI remake(possibly my next purchase) or 70 series repro. Hope that helps!

Btw, for good prices on Colts check out www.budsgunshop.com

I finally picked a Special Combat Government up. It's a beautiful pistol. I also picked up a blue 1991A1. Beautiful pistols. I'm most likely going to the leave the SCG as is and do a lot of aftermarket modifications to the 1991A1. I'll provide pics later.

Did you get the hard chrome SC or the two-tone? Please post some pics, I would love to see them.

Sooner1911,

I picked up the Hard Chrome one and she's pretty. The target that came with it said it was fired on September 15, 2005. What I didn't like is that the pistol came with two Chip McCormicks magazines, and I think somethings fishy with that. Do you happen to know a website where I can order some Colt .45 magazines with a bumper? Please let me know if you do. I will post some pics really soon. I have a Bushmaster AR-15 that I suped up. I've got a trijicon scope on it with all the works (surefire light, laser, vertical grip, etc.). It's pretty sweet.

I believe the Chip McCormick mags are correct for the Special Combat. Colt does not use bumper pads on any of their factory mags. But if you still want Colt mags I buy a lot from here.

1911Sooner,

I have another question. When I move my SCG from side to side there's a little rattle. Is that normal? My 1991A1 makes no noise at all. I've looked inside and everything seems normal. Is is suppose to make that noise (like there's a pebble bouncing around inside)?

Thanks,

That does not sound normal at all. Try and determine where it is coming from a little further. Move it side to side with and without the mag installed, also lock the slide back and move it side to side and see if it still does it. Your gun uses the series 80 firing system and it could just be the upper lever you here moving around.

1911Sooner,

I found the problem. It was what you had said. It was the series 80 firing system that had a part that was moving. After breaking the weapon down farther and greasing it up, there is no sound. Thanks for your help. I will post the pics of it and my AR-15 up shortly. Thanks.
