SBR and AOW questions

If you have an AR15 with a short barrel (registered as a SBR) can you put that upper on another lower? I assume the lower is what's registered, but the upper still can't go anywhere else.

Is a short barreled shotgun with a pistol grip considered an AOW? What if it has a full stock?

DrBaker, not sure about the SBR but I think that you are right about the receiver. I think that it would be registered as a short barreled rifle, not a short barreled upper. Ha. On the shotgun question, a short barreled shotgun with a pistol grip is an AOW, a short barreled shotgun with a full stock is just that, a SBS. The fee for AOW is 5 bucks, the fee for SBS or SBR is 200.

$5 for an AOW rocks, but I think the wait is just as bad as SBR,full auto, etc.

IF you have another lower, or reciever, that is registered as a SBR, then you can move that upper to it, BUT to move or install a SBR upper on a un-registered lower, would be illegal.

It's the same process, same LEO signoff, FBI background check. I've thought about all the NFA type goodies and If I was going to go thru that much trouble I would get a suppressor. Maybe after I get these kids thru college I can think about owning a full auto. you can get some pretty cool cans for less than 1k, .22 size start around 250, plus the 200 fee.

A Short Barrel Shotgun (SBS) is a $200 dollar transfer and can have either a full buttstock or a pistol grip. An Any Other Weapon (AOW) type shotgun is only a $5 transfer, but can NEVER have had and NEVER can have a buttstock. Also, if you as an individual would like to Form 1 (manufacture) an AOW it would cost $200, but future transfers would be $5. If you want an AOW, buy one that is already registered.
