I just checked Amtrak's site, and didn't see a policy or anything. I know our permit is good in Texas, so I think legally we're good. But can anyone who has ridden verify whether the station is posted, and whether they have an airport style metal detector or anything?

lmao. a friend thats stationed in san diego took a train back there once, he said they didnt have metal detectors or any security measures which he could recall, that were for dectecting weapons.
It has been several months since I rode the Heartland Flyer, but the times I have been on it, there was no metal detector either here or in Fort Worth.
Federal agents used to use the Amtrack between New York and Washington because there was no hassle carrying weapons on board.
Things could have changed since the subway attacks in London.

Interesting. I'll have to look further into it. I knew TSA was looking into rail stuff, so it kind of made me apprehensive. Thanks.

Any news on whether it's legal or not to carry on the Heartland Flyer? I was thinking of riding it down to Dallas next month.
Note that I'm interested in the legality, not whether it's possible. The security was laughable when I dropped my wife off last month, so I could probably do so, legal or not. But I don't want to violate the law.
Thanks!
