So does anyone have any thoughts about putting a magazine pouch on the stock of my AR? It's a colapsing stock so I don't know if that would be an issue. Also, does anyone have any first hand experience with this? If you like it, do you have a favorite manufacturer? Let's hear it!

I don't see any advantages to putting it on the stock. Just something extra that hangs off your rifle, something else to get in the way, extra weight.....

If you need an extra mag and aren't running a chest rig or drop leg platform then just stuff it in your back pocket or cargo pocket.

I store my long guns in my safe. However, from time to time, I need to quickly gain access to my AR. I'd like a loaded magazine attached to the rifle but not inserted into the mag well. I've seen several AR's with this type of setup and it looked good. I don't think it would get in the way or "hang" off of the rifle. Look at all of the other HSLD (High Speed Low Drag) gear that people put on thier guns.

I don't own a chest rig nor do I see a need for one. That's one more thing I have to go find and then put on. I may not have a back pocket or cargo pocket to put this in. Say...when I'm at home, maybe wearing sweat pants for example.

I'm not wanting to put a mag pouch on the stock for IPSC or 3-gun shooting or something like that. I'm talking practical, real world applications here.

You asked for an opinion, I gave mine. You seem to already have your mind made up on what you want so order it and see if you like it.

:uhh: Well, my mind isn't really made up. I was/am fishing for people that actually run a setup like this. I'm interested if they still do, why they like it, and if they don't, why they ditched it.

I appreciate your orignal post and I took that into consideration. It seemed like you were talking from a Military/Law Enforcement or active combat point of view, like I'd maybe be toting that gun for hours out in "the delta" with your fire team. :gun1: :wink2:

I wouldn't be engaged in those types of things. I was only trying to explain the type of duty the setup I have in mind would be tailored for. Sorry if I offended you.

You didn't offend me and I didn't mean to come off as so.

You need to look at what your needs are. You say you need to get it in a hurry but yet it's locked in the safe. You don't want to keep one in the mag well so why not just set it on the shelf in the safe? I just don't see a point to the stock packs. Extra money, extra weight, slow to use, might get in the way.......

I had one on my A2 stock until I went through TDSA'S Urban Rifle School. The stock mag pouch really got in the way of getting a good stock/cheek weld when doing bilateral shooting. I purchased a six pocket mag pouch with a single strap from the last gunshow I went to for like $16 and I keep that with my rifle. I figured if one can't shoot well, shoot often.

You might try the Redi-mag. It mounts to the gun right next to the mag well. Simply pull it out of one and slam it into the other. I too have an ar for home protection. I usually keep the mag seperate. After I saw your post I remembered them and it might be a solution. They are tough too. They are kind of high though if I remember. about $75. I may see if Brownells has them. I love there le discount.

I have been thinking about this...amazing I know. On my duty Ar I carry to mags hooked toghther using a mag coupling device. I don't know who made the ones I am carrying but mag pull makes a simular one. Get two mags one loaded and the other empty and join them together. Load the ar with the empty mag. For quick use simple unload, flip and reload. Best of all less than $10.
