I'm thinking about buying a MG. I'd like to spend around 5k what are my choices? I'd really like to avoid the small machine pistols.

Unfortunately, for 5K a machine pistol is about all you're going to be able to afford. MAC10s in .380/9mm/.45 all go for 3-4K. If you search far and wide for a few months, you may get lucky and stumble on an UZI for 5.5K, but they typically go for 7K or more these days.
Waiting to make your purchase is not a good idea, as the prices continue to steadily go up every year. And if the Democrats get the Presidency next year, I'll bet that EVERYTHING that goes bang will take a price bump.
You can review guns for sale and prices on these two boards: subguns.com or sturmgewehr.com

You might find a AC556 (full auto mini-14). But for $5000 your choices are limited. You might also consider saving it for a while and looking for something in the $7000-$8000 range.

You might find an HK MP5K for that...if you're lucky. Give B&M Firearms in Shawnee a call (405)273-1132 or my buddy Chad at PCA Gunshop also in Shawnee (405)273-1155. They are both Class III dealers. I can't remember the guy's name at B&M but he's from Guam and he's a super nice guy!

Any thoughts on the Reising model 50?

HK auto sears go for $11,000 by themselves. If you find someone selling full auto transferable HK MP5K's for around the price the OP mentioned ($5K-$8K), please let the rest of us know where they are. I will take a dozen.

Maybe he said he bought his years ago for 5K. I dunno...I was fondling the gun, he was talking, in one ear - out the other...you know how it is...

Bill Santos. He's a retired Army NCO. Very nice guy. He's handling an M60E4 transfer for me right now. I've had Bill recieve quite a few weapons. His transfer prices are very reasonable and he has great service.
If you pay him a visit, tell him that MAJ Gaston sent you (it'll guarantee that he give you a rash of ****!).

That sounds more reasonable. I too bought my MG's years ago when they were much cheaper than they are today. Couldn't afford any at today's prices.
