Predator with Jesse Ventura is to blame for this terrible idea, but I still think the Masterkey setup is cool. It wouldn't serve much purpose other than I would have a toy I've wanted for years.

If the rifle has a 16in barrel and the shotgun has a super short barrel, how would it be registered. Would the rifle need nothing as it is legal on it's own? Obviously the 870 would need to be done as an SBS. I don't think it could be an AOW since it kinda has a stock attached somewhere on it. Would the AR have to be a SBR since one of the barrels attached to it was less than 16in?
Waste of money? Maybe. I already have a registered SBR receiver and a registered SBS receiver just waiting to become fridge destroyers. I think I have all the parts to do it (other than some machining).
How bad of an idea is this?

I'm not even really sure his was less than 18 inches. I think he had an 18 inch shotty mounted to a 20 inch m16.
will do some research when I get home.

***fixed the pic*** in the first post. It stopped working for me.
A 12.5in 870 barrel will just about meet the end of the flash hider on a 18in AR barrel.:bigeye:
Can I mount this beast on your machine gun? :nutkick: :fallangel

Where are you going to get the mount? Maybe ywe can get BBcode3 to order one from Knights if they still make them.

You are correct. It cannot be a AOW as the AR's stock becomes the AOW's stock and hence it becomes an SBS.
WetWork is also correct in that Knight's Masterkey's are SBS's and it was Billy who carried it, Jesse carried the minigun.

The shotgun if not permanently mounted would have to be registered as a AOW. If it doesn't have a stock that is the route you would have to go.
How can it be registered as a SBS if it doesn't have a stock? I understand the AR having one but unless you make the shotgun part of the gun permanently I don't see where the NFA would allow it to be registered as a SBS.
Just my 2 cents. Cool idea though. Wonder what kind of recoil that setup would have?

An AOW 870 cannot have a stock (or be built on a shotgun that ever had a stock). They are built on bare factory receivers or on 870's that left the factory with pistol grips only. It is basically considered a 12ga pistol.
An SBS 870 can have any type of stock or no stock at all.
You can have two exact looking 870's and one be an AOW and one be an SBS. The SBS you can configure any way you want and the AOW can never have a stock.
The only advantage an AOW has over an SBS is that the transfer tax on an AOW is only $5 versus the $200 transfer tax on an SBS.
Here is my 870 AOW built by Scattergun Tech. on a factory bare 870.

I would just as soon use an M203 with a buckshot or similar door breach round...then again, 40mm rounds are a bit harder to come by on the civilian market..

And 40mm buckshot is $75 a pop.

Spikes Tactical had a setup where you could launch flares or smoke bombs.

Yup, but a hornets nest shoots 18 rounds of .22 at a time($.36 a shot:thumb:) That beats the hell out of 40mm buckshot!
