Sad to say that I'm near 23 and this is my first rifle, or maybe I should say the first rifle I went and bought for myself. So I went to the Tulsa Gun show on the look out for a Mauser 98k.

I wanted something in the 8mm range for cheap ammo, plus I really didn't like the lines of Russian Nagants, plus I only had about 180 to spend. So that put me in the Mauser area. So I looked around, found another M48 about ten minutes into the show and thought I had a great deal. My wife asked me if I wanted to buy something so soon, and I agreed and told the gentlmen I would have to think about it. So on went my search, till about 11:00 I found dealer with a bunch of Mauser based rifles. I found he has three M48s and all where in better condition than the first one I found, so I talked to him and decided to keep looking. Finished the upper area and decided to go ahead and buy with him. So I ended with this one.

Now I need to get some ammo and take a trip to the range. I think I am going to enjoy this rifle. Thanks for looking.

I had been going to the Tulsa Gunshow with my Wife and Father-in-Law for about 4 years now and in that time my firearm purchase had never been at the gunshows. SO I figured I would buy one there this time, plus I don't like buying stuff like that over the net.

The 10/22 I got when I was much younger, and 30-30 was my Dad's that I got when he passed away. So this was just something I had wanted for a while. However, Don't you have an AR? Thats all sorts of cool. :wink2:

I really like those M48's. The bent bolt handle, Mauser action, clean metal work. I bet it'll shoot too!

It still amazes me that now on some 100+ years the Mauser brothers have never seemed to have been bested when it comes to their design. But then again it's hard to improve on perfection.
M48 are sweet shooters.I can remember when you couldn't give them away.Seriously, you could get 5 of them, shipped for just over $100 dollars and change. Then again, I still remember OTASCO!For young kids, that used to be a store that we poor folks could actually afford to buy things in. A Mauser 48 sporterized would set you back around $30.00

Congrats on your new rifle and you will enjoy shooting it.

Each gun needs at least 3 or 4 good holsters, right? I can't do that!

Great looking rifle. Now you can start finding all the original stuff that goes with it....cleaning rod, sight hood, and of course the most practical of accessories...the bayonet :chop:

Yeah, I have already started looking for that stuff. I have found a few sites, but I think I will just stick to gunshows and stuff like that for now. A guy always needs a project on the back burner just waiting for an opportunity to pop up (like find a part or something) right?
