I'm going to be shooting in an IDPA league this winter. Up til now I have always used one of my carry holsters for all of my classes and games. I've decided to get another holster to use at classes, games, and ocasional carry since some of my leather is getting beat up with the repeated draws and holsterings.

What is a good holster that can stand up to the abuse but isn't strictly for gun games? I'd like to be able to press it into service if need be. I'll need a mag pouch as well.

Thanks

For IDPA,I have found none better than Ready Tactical products.
Available at www.pistolpacking.com
He is supposed to be introducing an IWB holster soon.

I see a lot of people using leather OWB rigs at matches, like the Galco Concealeable, etc.

Using two rigs is a good idea.
I tried using my carry gear for IDPA but it slows me down too much.......and Lord knows,I need all the help I can get. ;)

I'm not too concerned with speed right now. I'm doing it for fun and networking (SPE).

I'll look into the holsters you posted.

How about the Fist Kydex would it hold up work?

Comp-Tac, ReadyTactical, Blade Tech, Fist, Fin Designs and a bunch of others all make kydex OWB holsters that will hold up to repeated draws and re-holstering and are fine for competition.

None of them are suitable carry rigs.

Are there any rules prohibiting IWB? Or are you just going to lose some speed?

No rules against IWB and the speed thing is really what you make of it.
I think everyone will have an edge with OWB but there are people using IWB holsters that are very fast shooters.

To expound on what Mike is talking about regarding the suitability of Kydex holsters as carry rigs....

It is not the concealability factor but the durability in a live force scenario that prompt his remarks.
He should know,he trains hard and probably has seen evey make of OWB Kydex fail at one time or another,so it's more than just theroy.

Thanks guys.

I was hoping to get a holster that I could use for everyday carry if I needed to and still use for training and games. I'm not going to be a serious competitor so buying a specialized rig didn't make alot of sense to me. I've got Milt Sparks, Alessi and Rafter S leather rigs I use everyday but they get beat up during training so I'm trying to save them a little.

I may just get an OWB and use it around the farm as well.
