This election proposes to make San Francisco join the short list of cities that bans handgun ownership. Worth a read:

Whats even worse about the whole thing is that CA seems to start trends for the rest of us on a lot of things. I was stationed out there for 5 years in the 80s and the politics are enough to drive a sane man crazy! :screwy:

Well, IIRC, the state of California has some preemption over ordinances like this. They can pass it, and the California Supremem Court will toss it out. You can't make this stuff up...

San Francisco is a f-ing joke. They already have laws in place which restrict carrying guns. It is unlawful to carry a concealed handgun in California without a permit (Cal. Penal Code 12025), or to carry a loaded firearm in an incorporated area (like San Francisco) openly (Cal. Penal Code 12031) and when they arrest you for either violation, they confiscate the gun. Now they want to take them out of your house? Freakin idiots.

Yup it did pass like 54 to 46 percent. It will only be a while before its over thrown.. Next they will ban heterosexuals.

April 1st is the turn in date set for all the handguns in san fran. How fitting is that worst gun law in the nation starts on April fools day.

It'll get tossed before April.

Even if it doesn't get tossed by the Cali Supremes, one would think that only one brave sould would be required to take that as a showcase to the higher courts...

I'm sure they'll melt 'em down too. Too bad those of us smart enough to be okies can't go buy 'em, for a song. Of course that would be wrong, like supporting it or something; but cheap guns sure would be tempting. Especially when the alternative is the furnace. That just depresses me.

My understanding of the ban is that they won't receive any compensation for turning in their firearms either. It is basically a turn them in or else.

as with every other gun law,it would be unconstitutional....

Well it's worked so well in England and D.C...... I guess they figured it would be the next logical step.

This stuff is really scary. Other cities are watching and will probably be trying to join in soon.

What is so bad about being able to protect ourselves? Idiots.

The really scary thing is that we will all gladly hand over our guns when the time comes...

I don't want to even think about that day.

Well they say the guns will go to the furnace. But you know they would actually get stuck in cargo ships in sold to some fruit cakes in Syria or something.
