Is the only difference between a G22 and G23 about 1/2 in on the barrel? Also the magazine release is on the left hand side of the grip.I am left handed and it is awkward for me to use my finger instead of my thumb to release the mag.Can it be moved to the right side without alot of expense? As someone else said, I guess I have real hands because the grips don't feel good to me either.

There is also about 3/4 of an inch on the grip as well.

The mag release cannot be moved to the other side without extensive modification.

For left-handers, I suggest learning to manipulate the mag release with your trigger finger. That way you do not have to have different systems for different guns.

To me there is more difference that just the overall length of the grip and barrel.
The 'hump' of the back strap hits your hand in a different area with each respective grip. You may prefer one over the other.
The finger groove issue...
I like finger grooves (3rd gen) on the G23 sized guns but dislike them (2nd gen. have no grooves) on G22 sized guns.
I also find that the G22 has more perceived muzzle flip than the G23.This is something I cannot explain.
YMMV.

lefties have it bad in the pistol world.
I suggest taking Michael's advice and learn to use your index finger on your strong hand.

Sheeeit. That's the easy part. Try being someone who's a lefty and enamored with bullpup rifles. I'm either doomed to never have one, or I'd better get uset to scars.

I will work on that.Thank you.One more question? Are there any competetive left handed shooters that are as quick as the right handed shooters when releasing a mag?

Not to say get a different gun, but are there not some left configured pistols? Sigs I think, plus HK and Walthers at least have ambi mag releases. Just a thought.

Skyydiver:
Or get a F-2000 (up and coming civie model is the FS-2000). I hear they're lefty friendly, with their forward porting ejection.

You can see the brass coming out of the front of the gun in this one.

Absolutely.
Come out and watch Marshall Luton shoot sometime.

You might consider the Springfield XD. It has been my experience that people who have trouble with the Glock like the XD. They both have the same 105 degree grip angle, but the XD's back strap fills more of your hand. It also has the ambidextreous mag release.

I am going to have to disagree with Tammy and J.P.

You can be faster than the majority of people at matches but you won't be the fastest if you are left-handed. There are just too many handicaps to overcome.

However, the good news is that consistency is more important than speed. If you can change mags every time, without fail, in 2 seconds under match conditions, you are far better off than the dozen or so shooters in this area than can do an occasional one second mag change and then flub a couple costing five seconds.

Train to be consistent and you will have no problems comparing with those who are truly good.

Marshall is a really fast lefty.
Faster than most of the competitors at any given match.
Faster than Mike Brown? No. Not usually.
But still the point is that yes leftys can be fast.

I am a lefty and I think I have two advantages over right handed shooters when changing magazines in a traditional pistol. 1) I cannot have an accidental discharge because my finger is certainly off the trigger. 2) I have seen many shooters turn the pistol in their hand in order to reach the mag release with their thumb. They then have to re-establish their grip before they can continue to shoot. For me my grip stays constant throught the mag change. Having my medium sized hands I would want to reverse the magazine release if I was right handed.
