Jim Dandy, you can probably help me on this one. Is there a cheaper way to own a full auto M-16 than purchasing a complete gun? Is it possible to just buy a transferrable lower or a fire control group? Is there such a critter? I have an early Colt SP-1 but when I shoot Bill Stovers full autos, it just leaves me wanting more.

The only choices you have for transferable M16-type stuff at present are a registered lightning link (RLL), registered drop in auto sear (RDIAS), and a registered receiver (RR).
RLLs have been flattening out in price as of late, around $6.5K to $7K. RDIASs and RRs around $9K on up.
A RDIAS will allow you to "convert" your SP1 to M16 spec with the addition of M16 fire control parts and an M16 bolt carrier. A RLL will allow your SP1 to function in full auto simply by installing it in your lower. Both the RDIAS and RLL are considered machine guns, just like a RR.
The good thing about the RDIAS and RLL is the ability to move it from gun to gun.

Thanks for the info and prices. I've heard of the drop in auto sears and lightning links but didn't know if they were legal and transferable. They seem like the way to go pricewise. The receivers approach the prices of complete rifles. I've seen M-16A1s advertised for 12K.
