For any of you that have been considering a custom revolver, go for it!

I just received a Ruger Redhawk in .45 Colt back from Gary Reeder. He cut the barrel to 4", cut a DEEP crown, throated it and reduced the gap. He also rounded the hump on the backstrap and softened all of the edges. It now has a v-notch rear sight and a gold bead on the front. It also has his custom gunfighter grips and an action job. He refinished it in a satin look (it is stainless) with a polished trigger, hammer and other small parts. It has some new engraving, as well.

This revolver is one hell of a shooter now, too! It can handle anything from mild CAS loads, to really hot and heavy hunting loads. Accuracy is simply astounding.

Custom guns don't come cheap, but I feel this was well worth the expense.

It looks like this one, except that the hump on the backstrap has been significantly rounded off:

Very nice. Makes me think I SHOULD buy myself a heavy, big bore revolver.

sash,

That's a very nice revolver. :wink2: Gary's work is top shelf.

Over the past 10 or 15 years I've been watching the return of the Paine front sight and it's variants with interest. The Patridge sight and its' variants are by no means a poor choice, but it has amazed me how something as just plain useful as the Paine sight has been largely ignored for 75 years.

IMO, a vee notch rar sight plus the Paine front sight gives a far faster sight picture in many situations than the traditional "U" notch used with the Paine front- the vee rear sight was a standard option long ago.

Here are a few pics of Paine sights (on 2 Colts and a Smith) from the early years of the last century.
