My wife and I have been trying to find a pistol for her for a while now. She's a lefty, so she's had some difficulty with finding one whose controls she can manipulate. She likes my G19, but she just can't operate the controls, even with the extended slide lock leverl. We finally tried a Kimber Ultra Carry in .45ACP, and while she really liked it, she said that the recoil was just a bit too much for her.

H&H Gunrange here in OKC has a Kimber Pro Carry in 9mm for sale for $700, and I'd buy it for her in a heartbeat, but they don't have one for rent and I'm scared to pay for the gun, lefty safety kit, lefty magazine release kit, and Hogue grips only to find that she doesn't like the gun.

Is anybody using the Kimber Pro Carry in 9mm? If so, how is your experience with it?

And if you have one and are looking to get rid of it, I'd be very interested in buying it if she could try it first.

Thanks!

If your wife doesn't have her heart set on kimber,I was told the springfield XD had ambi mag release and also some of the sigs. Also a ruger p95 has ambi mag release at about half the cost of a kimber.

Where'd you shoot the kimber? H&H didn't have one for rent the last time I checked. The only 9mm 1911 they had for rent was an STI.

I don't think she wants the Kimber, per se, but it's the only 1911 we've found in 9mm so far, aside from the STI. I know that she really liked how the ultra carry felt.

The XD has the small slide lock, like the Glock, IIRC. I haven't looked at the ruger.

Two things I want in the gun: the 1911 slide lock, and the ability to put Hogue grips on it. Oh, and the ambi safety and mag release. I think the safety makes sense for her.

Anyway, if I can find one for her to try, we'll get her one the same day. The one she tries, if she likes it and it's for sale.

Ever thought about a H&k compact in 9mm the controls can be very simular to a 1911. The H&k also has the option for da/sa if she does not feel comfotable with C&L carry. I do belive that houges can be put on the H&K.

I had a pro-carry once. Junk. Took an excellent smith and ~300 bucks to get it right (function wise). But it was a .45. Last Kimber for me. YMMV
