I made the mistake of introducing my then future wife to shooting with a two inch .357 with no ear protection and not telling her what to expect!! Needless to say she has never gone shooting with me since!! I blew it - maybe someday she'll forgive me for the shooting incident and the hickey (another story)

Did she actually fire more than 1 shot?

One shot did it! She regained her composure and calmly handed the gun back to me and walked off. Not a happy camper!! That was 15 years ago and she still won't go shooting with me! Hopefully I didn't blow it for life...

Haha. I had a similar experience.

My dad took me out shooting about 3 years ago. He handed me a S&W 642. I fired 1 shot and tried to keep my composure. I fired a second shot and had to look to make sure my hands were still there. I fired a third shot and I had to check to make sure my arms were still there, since they had gone numb.

I calmly handed the gun back to dad and said "next". I was a new shooter, so I wasn't ready for that yet. I bet I could "handle" it alright now though.
