Typically gun magazines and forums are full of talk about what gun, what holster, what gunsmith, what custom knife etc.
I would guess that the majority of people who purchase handguns today are doing so for self-defense purposes.
That said, why are we so much more interested in the equipment than the skill and training needed to deploy it? Are we really deluded enough to believe that survival in combat has more to do with whether you have a Glock or Sig or 1911 than it does with how you have prepared for a fight?
Who is really more prepared, the man with a dozen expensive custom guns or the man with one simple, reliable pistol that has spent his dollars learning to fight with his economical pistol and developed the other skills needed in combat?
Why are we willing to spend $2500 on a custom pistol or $400 on a custom battle blade, and then spend nothing learning how to deploy them or practice with them?
Its fun for me to paw my newest blaster but lets face it: Its a tool. Nothing more. Excessive adoration of inanimate objects detracts from the seriousness with which we must deal with these objects and how we regard them.
The Knights Templar knew this certuries ago when they were admonished not to adorn their horses with gold or their swords with decoration. However times haven't changed much in the following 800 years and we are back where we started from.
Perhaps it is simply human nature. I think it is something else.
It is easy to buy a piece of equipment. It is hard to train. It is even harder to train realistically.
Adults all get to make their own choices on where to spend their time and money. But if defending yourself is a priority, consider strongly where you spend your hard-earned dollars.
Only you will be responsible for your own safety.
