I was looking at their website and it looks like if we can get a group of 10 or more we can save over 50% on membership fees. I know no one really likes them but this might not be a bad deal. Because I need some place convient to shoot at.

If you're in B.A. join Oil Capital Rod and Gun Club.
Its expensive but a great investment and far more enjoyable than Tulsa Firearms.
If you are interested, I'd be glad to sponsor you for membership.

Didn't J.P. post a map to Oil Capital somewhere?
If its not there, take 51 to the Kenosha/71st Street exit. Go east on Kenosha to 305th East Ave/Coweta Road/Ben Lumpkin Road. Turn south there and go three miles and the range will be on the left.
Look forward to seeing you there.

About how much is that place?

A membership is $1000 and $100 per year every year after.
The benefit is that you own 1/600th of the land, so if it sells you will get back 10-20 times that amount should the land be considered un-useable as a range.
In the meantime, you get the use of the best range in this area.

Wow, to get 10x your money that place would have to sell for $6,000,000.
Some additional info on OCRGC:

I would think about joining if it wasn't a 40 minute drive. :(
As for the Tulsa Firearms, I think it might be difficult to get 10 people from this site to give them money. (From what I've read in other threads)

In today's dollars, the property Oil Capital sits on would probably cost a developer about $5 million. Since its not for sale anytime soon, I'd say that 10-20 times is a fairly good estimate for what it will be when its forced to sell. I'd say we've got at least another ten years before land develops to much around it.
Considering when I bought mine it was $700 its even easier to recoup.

When i spoke with Jack about buying my membership at Oil Capital he said that the average price was running around $1300 for a membership but that he had a couple that were listed below that.
Brennan, with a limited number of memberships you are actually purchasing the membership from a vacating member, thus as demand and value for the membership go up so does the price for which members can sell their membership.
Michael, are their any plans to provide some night time lighting on the pistol ranges? Is that even a good option versus just building an indoor range at OCRGC? When do the members meet to discuss such building projects? It would definately be nice to be able to shoot a little longer into the night.
I know that for the lit trap and skeet fields, members can shoot up to 10pm, 7 days a week.

With the pistol bays expansion project, nothing else is going to happen for at least six months.
I have heard that lighting is one of the next things on the agenda.
An indoor range is probably well above the club's means right now and I haven't heard any talk of starting one up.

Michael Brown if there are any open memberships it would be great if you would sponsor me. I checked into Oil Capitol back when it was $700 and they said I could pay it out in 10 months but never did join. If I am able to get a membership should I keep my Red Castle membership? And yes I am in BA.

I'm not Michael but I would keep my membership at Red Castle, also. There are some things you can do at RC you can not due at OC. Plus , its good to support the local ranges.

Tulsa is blessed with several good shooting ranges. Oil Capital is one of them. Its membership is capped at 800 (it's full, but memberships do come up and sell in the $1200 range.) It's a 503C7 fraternal organization, under the IRS code, so if the facility is sold, the proceeds may only go into another 503C7. Proceeds may not be individually divided among the members. OC is not considering going anywhere, instead it's building.
Indoor ranges are expensive to build and operate. Ventilation is a prime concern with them. Take this from someone who got ill from shooting on a now-closed indoor facility.
To get to OC from Muskogee, take Muskogee turnpike to Coweta exit, go west on OK51 to first stoplight (at blue water tower/HS football stadium.) Turn RH on Ben Lumpkin Rd, go about 4 1/2 mi. north to 101st St, turn RH, then quick left @ first drive.

I completely agree with Gary. You should keep the Red Castle membership for the reasons he suggested.
If you would like me to sponsor you, pm me with your name and contact info and I'll get you in touch with the membership chairman.

I am one of those who would love to see this happen but I don't think Tulsa has the market for it.
I think a lot of us Tulsans sometimes forget that OKC is simply a much bigger and more financially stable market.

True but Tulsa has money. I dunno.... if Tulsa Firearms can stay in business an H&H type range could make a killing. Put it out south, or in BA,
Please.... someone just give me a no hassle place to shoot for cheap.

I completely agree.
Rant warning: I looked at buying a Kahr PM9 from Tulsa Firearms this past summer. 1st I was told that they don't carry them because Kahr's break too easily. 2nd, they could special order me one for $875. That didn't even include night sights! What a heck of a deal. I ended up picking a LNIB one for $535 with NS.
Sorry for the rant. I have a cheap, no hassle place to shoot (wife's parent's land) but that doesn't help at all when it is 20 degrees outside.
I think a nice, reasonably priced indoor range would do quite well here in Tulsa. Perhaps a OSA range?? :wink2:
