I found out tonight from the Manager of BPS that it is ILLEGAL for them to ask to see your ID when you buy ammo unless they have reasonable suspicion (sp?) that you are under age (18 for long gun and 21 for handgun). I mentioned it to the Manager because I have bought ammo twice from there and they didn't ask for my ID....was just letting him know to try and keep them out of trouble.

I don't think that is correct.
Illegal how?

It may be against company policy but its certainly not illegal.
I think frequently people confuse policy and law.

I've never been asked to show my ID when buying ammo and I've got the sweetest baby face that you've ever seen.
Just ask JP. :wink2:

Thats exactly what I was thinking. If it was correct it would only stand to reason that it should be against the law to check ID for tobacco and alcohol...really no difference, either way you are saying its ok to contribute to minors.

i've noticed when i buy ammo at wally-world that the question "is the buyer over 21" shows up on the cash register, the attendant will answer the question and then the sale is completed

I have noticed that too...but they at least ask me for ID (some are idiots though if I show my Military ID)

i'm old,fat and grey headed :grumble: only a blind person could mistake me for under 21 :wink2:
your a little closer to the age limit so you'll get more ID checks
The thing that pisses me off at Walmart is that when you buy 9mm/40/45/357/44mag,they automatically assume it's for a handgun and answer the "Is this for a handgun?" with a "YES" which in turn requires the buyer to be 21.
One day when I felt like poking fun at someone's misery,I gave the guy at Walmart a hard time.
I was buying 3 boxes of WWB 9mm and he hit "yes" when it asked if it was for a handgun.
I says: "This is not for a handgun"
Him: "Yes it is"
Me: "No it's not"
Him: "I've never hear of a 9mm rifle so yes...it's for a handgun"
Me: "No. this is for my rifle which is and H&K MP-5 submachine gun"
Him: "Well i've never heard of *any* 9mm rifle"
Me: "Well, you obviously don't know much about firearms,do you?"
Him:*head veins bulging* "Well,I know that 9mm is for a handgun"
Me:"Hahahaha.....What a f***in' joke...here's my I.D."
Yeah...I know,but I was having a bad day.

all to many people make this mistake.
one of the "security" people at my present job told me he could take away my leatherman and my pocket knife because i couldnt carry "2 knives" at the same time, and that it was against company policy to even carry one knife. he said he would take them and i would not get them back. i told him he was not going to take them from me and he paused for a second, and then he said i could just keep them.

I think that Marlin made a little rifle called a Camp Carbine. They made them in 9mm and 45.

Maybe we need to send Jay Jr. or someone underage in...with Mike or some other officer out of uniform and see if they ask for his ID or sell to him. That may be the only way they change the way they do things. Just an idea.

... and hi-point, and the storm.
I don't think I've ever been asked for my ID at Wally World for anything. Is that good news, or bad news? I guess that depends on how old you are. :wink2:
At our store, if the person looks under 21 and wants to buy ammo that could be used either way, we ID and try to determine discreetly what kind of gun it is for.
