Hi people;
Anyone here get your deer this year during muzzleloading season? What type of muzzleloader do you have, and have you heard that the DWC is thinking about a 16 day muzzleloading season?

I did not get one this year but I have taken deer with a muzzleloader before. I use a Thompson Center black diamond it is a composite/stainless model. I have been completely satisfied with this rifle, it's accuracy has been great for a .50 cal muzzleloader. But if I was to do it over again I would probably get the Thompson center encore just for the ease of cleaning and versitility.

I didn't get the chance to go this year but have taken deer with ML every year I have gone. I have a TC Renegade Side Lock and a TC Omega Inline both in .50 Cal. I hadn't heard about the extended season but it sounds good to me.

I have a savage. I didn't see a deer all season ML. Talk about ease of cleaning I use smokeless powder, it is made to use it ,and I don't have to clean right away. I could ,if I wanted to ,wait untill end of season.

If you read the rules real close, a smokless powder M/L is illegal to use. That's splitting hairs, just like a saboted round is also illegal. anyhows I like my super cheap Traditions whatever model- shot alot of different models and found that accuracy was up to the guy loading the powder.....

looking at the regs right now {2005 -2006)
states on page 12; legal means of taking
Muzzleloading rifles: 40cal or larger, flintlock, percussion cap or shotgun primer, single slug or ball, black powder, prodex or modern smokeless powder, double barreled muzzleloarer rifles, in-line rifles, metallic sights and optical sights are legal.
It seams to me that the regs say I can use smokeless and sabots.

90% of the muzzleloaders being used today are using sabots and modern powders(777 or clean shot). I have also heard that a two week season will be in play 2006-2007. This has been proposed, we'll see what happens.

I just bought a new Winchester APEX 50 cal. from Cabelas. Has a long 29 inch barrel, and breaks open like an Omega for easy cleaning. Cabelas have them marked WAY down (over a hundred bucks off). Got a blue/black model with scope and sling (a nice sling) for about $250 bucks total. Haven't shot it yet, but it's a handsome rifle. Beware, though, it Does have a Spanish barrel, but that won't be a problem with me. They recommend 150 grains of pellets max, or 100 grains of loose powder max. I believe it's a lot of gun for the money. Don't know how much longer Cabelas will have this sale though.
