So I watched "Mythbusters" today and watched a 147gr 9mm go through 6-7ft of water and straight through a block of ballistics gel. While several rifle rounds .223, 30-06, and .50cal could go through no more than 2-3ft without disintigrating. This was very interesting to me. Too much velocity? I understand that the higher the velocity the more "impact" you'd see upon entering a fluid. This the case?
Yeah I think so.
The 147gr 9mm was a FMJ right?
When i've tested FMJ pistol rounds in water or wetpack, they penetrate completely and are lost.
Rifle rounds have enough velocity to fragment (depending on the bullet design I suppose)

Yep..... in the first test they used a 12ga slug aswell.... only it went through the water, gel, and blew out the bottom of the makeshift acrylic tank. :) Even I could have called that one.

Not gun/rifle related but they busted the myth that driving with your tailgate down saves miles per gallon; driving with it down will make your MPG worse.

Yeah I tried to explain that to a few drag racing buddies and they refused to listen to me.

Alot of my drag racing buddies don't even know how to calculate mpg. :wink2: (joking of course, they might read this. LOL )

Actually I was talking about their runs down the track. They showed that a truck is more aerodynamic with the tailgate up.
