I'm looking for a flattop upper receiver, but will have to get some type of sights (carry handle, buis, optics, etc). I thought this might be an alternate route. This will be used with a 20in barrel. Seems like a more appropriate setup for a 16in barrel.

Good or bad thoughts welcome.

I like the idea, and had cosidered buying one for my Armalite. I was informed, and shown, that optics choices are VERY limited with the Ute.

True. Aimpoint and EOtech would work, but you couldn't put a scope (leupold, etc) on it.

I'm afraid it would look funny with a 20in barrel.

Down side is even with an EOtech you would be ALOT better off with a flat top and a flip up rear sight. Mainly the reason is with the UTE you still need to look through the rear sight to see the red dot. Kinda defeats the purpose of that type of sighting system.

That upper has very limited options. I would suggest a flattop and then spend the extra cash on sights that you actually want. You can find New Carry handles on the cheap at ar15.com in their trading section. I just got a new Eotech 552 in the mail last night from Jtacsupply to put on the upper I am trading for this weekend. Can't wait to get it completed. You can also get a rear buis for less than 100 if you check out www.eaglefirearms.net they sell RRA and STag uppers with ARMS 40 or 40L preinstalled on a flattop.. They give you 4 options of sights with their uppers. They have excellent prices there also. Also Stag and RRA are both made by CMT so most people say save the cash and get a Stag upper.

Actually I got the last part needed yesterday.

My upper is a CMT A3 flattop with a 14.5in M4 barrel.

If everything goes well, I'll be able to get it put together and shoot it this weekend.
