I've read in some states it only takes a couple of weeks. I'm going on 9 now. Just wondering where abouts the average is.

I think that I hold the state record, 140 days. My prints were rejected 3 times. Our county doesnt have a digital fingerprint scanner. I finally went to a county that had one and the prints went thru just fine. It was only about 6 weeks on each try before I heard back from the OSBI, they must respond in 90 days. Patience dude, they must just have a bunch to process, you should get it , or hear from them any day now.

Mine, my wifes, my dads, my sisters, and my brother-in-laws all took right at 90 days. My moms took forever, she also had to get fingerprinted several times. Ended up having to go to OSBI to get fingerprinted. She doesn't hardly have any finger prints. It is like they are almost rubbed off, real faint. Weird!

I'm not saying your mom's old or anything but that is very common with age. In my CCW class there was a guy well into his 70's in there and the instructer said he would deffinatly have problems getting a good set of prints.

I guess I was lucky.
Mine only took about 45 days.
60 days flat from walking out of the county sheriff's office to walking back in.
I think it would have been longer but when I was getting my finger prints done I was really anal watching the deputy do it. I asked him to reprint three fingers just to be safe. Nice guy didn't tell me no he just scaned them again.

Fingerprint Tag! He's it! Seriously have him save the time and just go to OKC and have the OSBI do them on the spot. They are the pickiest ones of them all.(FBI could care less but the OSBI are sticklers)They wont let him out of there untill the set they have pass.It will save the headache of playing Fingerprint Tag.(And the letter will probably come within a week to come pick it up.)
I got mine in 23 days.I had some little girl down at the Tulsa County S.O. roll mine.I hope she's still working there cause she really knew her stuff.I dropped the packet off on Oct 2nd and got a letter on Oct 27th to come pick it up.The license is dated Oct. 25 so 23 days.
My Dad played tag with them 3 times(electronic prints) and he went there in person and withing a week the letter came.

I think mine took about 60 days. I have had mine several years. Paken247, out of professional curiosity, do you have to have a UPIN when you buy a gun?
brennan
02-27-2006, 03:25 PM
What is a UPIN?
Unique Personal Identification Number. If you have been denied before for "no apparent reason" or do true black ops, you probably have been issued an UPIN. I only know one person who has one and he cannot tell me everything he does.

Somewhere in the 60 to 90 day range is the norm for all I know of including my original. I have known of so many that got held up for Fingerprints it long ago lost it's humorus aspect. If you get them kicked back to you once forget the Sheriff go to the OSBI in the city and do it there. You will be sure they can't be rejected before you leave. If you are serious about the permit the lost time from work is not an issue. With the reject ratio that seems apparent how do we ever get usable prints from a crime scene where the person didn't co-operate and give them to the OSBI? Thank God renewal doesn't require anything but a new picture the applicaton and the money.

Like gdcooper says, when your original prints get kicked...I mean if they get kicked.. ;) go straight to an OSBI office and let them do it. Mine was 110 days or so.

My LETTER was in the mail Friday when I got home. It was dated 11 April, 2006, so that's 83 days from the time I was finger-printed and left all the stuff with the Sheriff's Office until they (OSBI) wrote the letter telling me I was qualified. HOWEVER, when I called the SO Monday morning, the gal that answered the phone never even hesitated, 'Oh, it's not here yet. Those permits are always four to five days behind the letter.' It's obvious she didn't know and didn't bother to check. So, why do I know people who got a call from their Sheriff's Office to come pick it up before they even got the letter from OSBI??? I didn't bother them today. I'm gonna' call the SO again tomorrow, and if they still don't have it, I'm calling the phone number the OSBI includes in their letter.
NikatKimber
04-18-2006, 05:48 PM
Mine was 60 something, don't remember. two of the Pott county concealed carry class instructors i know of tell you in class to go directly to the osbi if they are rejected. By boss let me have half the day off to go, no notice!!! (he wanted me to get it!) If i remember right, it was just a couple weeks after the osbi did the prints.
DRC458
04-20-2006, 06:11 PM
INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT!!!! .... I called the Sheriff's Office Monday, they said they didn't have it yet. I called the SO Wednesday, they said they didn't have it yet. They told me then that there was sometimes a ten day lag between me getting the letter and their receiving the permit ... the permits are mailed Certified so they have to sign for them ... sometimes there is a problem coordinating with the Post Office. I said, 'so, maybe I need to call OSBI' ... no response. SO, I called OSBI today. The County SIGNED for my permit the day BEFORE I even received the letter. The OSBI generally mails you the letter one day, and sends your permit to your local SO the next. So, my local Sheriff's Office has been sitting on it for a week, telling me they didn't have it! If you know anybody waiting on a CCW, tell them to call the OSBI toll free number listed on the letter they receive and inquire about it. I intend to call my SO again tomorrow and, if I am not told to come pick up my permit I am making two categories of phone calls ... one to the OSBI and the other to my state legislators ... Senators and Representatives. This IS a "SHALL ISSUE" state!
MarkV
04-20-2006, 06:27 PM
Very interesting DRC458. Thanks for the update. I got my letter on a Friday, called the Sheriff's office and was told it would be mailed to them in a few days.
DRC458
04-20-2006, 08:42 PM
Likely story. Call the OSBI. They send them Certified Mail so the SO has to sign for them. They can tell you if/when it was signed for. It appears that not enough people follow up on this through OSBI. Maybe this needs to be not only a "SHALL ISSUE" but a "SHALL NOTIFY" state as well. If the SO can sit on them as long as they want after they are issued, "SHALL ISSUE" means nothing. If this is a trend, we all need to notify our legislators.
DRC458
04-21-2006, 05:12 PM
FINALLY GOT IT ... but it wasn't easy. Called the SO this morning and told them the OSBI told me somebody in their office had signed for it on April 13th. Went through a couple of people and the second one said, 'let me see if it's in his desk drawer.' She was gone for a minute or so, during which I heard a cheap metal desk drawer sliding, and she came back and said, 'yeah, it's here.' !!!!!!! Yeah, really, it's been there for over a week. Anyway, it's in my billfold now. I encourage any of you who get the letter from the OSBI, but don't get your permit post haste from the SO, to call OSBI and get confirmation and dates.

04-21-2006, 10:55 PM
The first time I applied it took them a month between mailing it in, and the Sheriff calling and saying come get your permit. I have a very unusaul last name. It didn't take very long to do the back ground check. that was in 94', all my renewals only took 1 month.

Have faith, if you didn't have any problems, like rejections of prints, it should be showing up any time. Mine took 94 days (to Sherriff's office), so hopefully before the end of the week or sometime next week. Have you called the Sherriff to see if they had any problems with the paperwork or prints?

Bull! I watched one boil tonight. Then I threw some rice in it! I have to say, it was just as much fun, just as enthralling, just as action-packed and suspenseful as watching grass grow or paint dry...well, maybe not as much as watching paint dry.

Which sucks cause I took the class back around the beginning of June. I called the OSBI to get my packet sent to me. Waited a 2 weeks and nothing. Called again, waited about 10 days, nothing. Called a third time to get my packet, and it arrived 2 days later! Jeeze this is taking forever. When your really excited about something its really hard to exercise patience. When your application is complete, take it along with your blank fingerprint cards to the Sheriff's Department in the county where you live........ If your application is approved the license will be mailed to your Sheriff's Department."
