Okay im curious, it seems alot of these AR15's and all shoot this, and from what I can tell, it's not much bigger then a .22 or something. (Im sure im wrong, just sayin what it seems to me.) Is the .223 just fun to plink with or what? Can you hunt game with it and be successful? Like deer or something? Just curious...I guess im not entirely sold on it from lack of knowledge.

Well buddy, from what little I know is that the projectile it self is just a little bigger than a .22 but longer, heaver, and with A TON more power. It is the standard NATO 5.56mm used by our military in their M-16, M-4 and SAW style weapons. The 223 also is an excelent round for varmit game hunting ect. or just plinkin at the range. Hope this sheds a little light.

.223 is a little on the weak side for deer but will put down a coyote. Is had tramendous range and great accuracy. You can get an Ar chambered in .308 if you like. And now the trend is Ar's in 9mm and 7.62x39.

+1 for ammo oracle, very informative. Also agree with 1911 about his statement about 223 being a little weak for deer.

223 works great for deer in Oklahoma, especially with the newer 75 and 77gr stuff thats available.

With ammo heavier than 55gr to 60gr. your barrel will need to have a faster twist rate(1 in 7" to 1 in 9" depending on the weight of the bullet). If you use a slower rate twist, your bullet will not stabilize and you will have no accuracy at all.
