Loads were shot out of a Glock 17 into both bare water jugs and 4 layer denim covered jugs at 10ft.

Here are the numbers....

Winchester Ranger SXT 127gr+P+
Bare: Recovered in 3rd jug, dent in back of 3rd jug.
Recovered diameter = .73"

Denim: Recovered in 3rd jug, dent in back of 3rd jug.
Recovered diameter = .67"

Speer Gold Dot 115gr+P+
Bare: Recovered in 3rd jud,no dent in back of 3rd jug.
Recovered diameter = .79"

Denim: Recovered in 3rd jug, dent in back of 3rd jug.
Recovered diameter = .58"

Both rounds that were shot into bare jugs had diameters of approximately 1.1" when the petals were manually expanded.
This expansion is happening in the first jug.

Interesting stuff, JP.

So, was the ranger +p+ better expanding than the 147 gr.?

Interesting stuff, JP.

So, was the ranger +p+ better expanding than the 147 gr.?

Yes,slightly.
The penetration is usually into the 4th jug with the 147gr version with either bare or denim clad jugs.
With all of the testing I've done througout the years,I think I prefer the 127gr+P+ version slightly better.
I originally started using the 147gr version because my SIGs felt like they were going to come apart with most +P+ ammo so I didn't feed it to them.
Now that I shoot Glocks,it isn't an issue.

I will say this.......
The Gold Dot 115gr+P+ is without a doubt the stoutest 9mm load I've ever fired.
In order of felt recoil:
115gr Blazer
124gr+p Golden saber bonded
147gr Ranger
115gr+P Cor-Bon
127gr+P+ Ranger

115gr+P+ Gold dot
