Saw several at Three Rivers WMA this year. Did not get one this year, but got one last year and the year before.

Durring rifle season in Salisaw the camp next to us got a blonde 350-400 boar with 4" tusks. I did not see any but you could tell that they were by the watering holes. The weight is an estimate. Some people out there have those trail cameras and got some really good pics of a black and white hog and a small bear.

On Three Rivers, we go in south of Pickens about 10 miles. On Honobia we usually go in south of Clayton, on a topo map the place we go is Wildhorse mountain. I know these are vague directions but it is easier for me to show someone versus tell them. The thing about both areas it that there are several good places. Also, there a lot of ranchers who put out feeders for their cows, I have seen several around the feeders.

i use a 45-70 on the hogs... with a gould express 330gr hollowpoint i mold outta melted down wheel weights and air-cool for maximum softness... at about 1650 fps outta a marlin 1895g guide gun with a williams WGRS peep sight and a fiber "firesight" front.
i find the 45-70 to be very versatile.. boar to buffalo with bear inbetween, no worries

of course there is the small matter of 40+ foot pounds of recoil from that gun...

For all you hog hunters how do you hunt. do you stalk, use stands or do drives. I have a group of about 4 people that want to do a hog hunt. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful hints for a successful hunt.

problem with hogs is, they're smart... 3rd behind only dolphins and apes..
honestly, if you've got 4 dudes that just want to shoot a hog, jw hunting preserve in henrietta is the way to go... will run ya about $175 a person, and you'll see and get your hog...
stalking fair chase is what i'm currently doing, and it's very hard, very time consuming work.. lots of people see and pop one whlie hanging out in their deer stands during deer season, and that's fine... i just want to outsmart one for a change... heheh..
Went hog hunting on my son-in-laws land a year ago, and learned a valuable lesson. Was greedy and going to try to kill 3 hogs to fill everybodies freezer...first mistake. Was hunting with my Sako .300 Win Mag (180 gr. Silvertips). I shot 3 hogs..Would knock them completely off their feet when I hit 'em...but didn't recover ONE single hog. I just recently found out why while browsing on the 'net. I was hitting them back behind the front leg..like a deer..A hog's vitals are further forward, between the front legs...lungs and all, so if you shoot at one broadside, you're going to have to waste a little meat and hit him right on the front shoulder. If you can catch one quartering away, right in the front armpit should anchor him without much meat wasted.
I'm sure all those hogs I shot died, but they made it a long way back into a swampy area before they did, and I hate that. Don't make my mistake...alan

Well in my experience of hoghunting. it is just that a whole lot of hunting. Down round my area (stigler and south) they roam alot. Last hog i saw we tried to put the sneek on with our turkey guns :thumb: . but she saw us and that went down hill. I agree with the ol' boy that said stalking is the hard way. I have been treed a couple of times by the sorry suckers. Yet I will get one with my bow one day soon. This will happen bout the time i learn to climb a tree and shoot at the same time
