Anyone hear anything about when the 16" uppers will be out there for sale? They say deliveries in FEB. 2005 but I have never seen one. And how much $$$$$$ are we talking about? http://www.hkdefense.us/corporate/media/pdf/416revised4-5-05.pdf

I'm putting together a lower and have tried to find this out aswell. I think they'll be a bit too pricey for me.

That flier is for Military and Federal Agencies only but HK is supposed to be releasing some to regular Law Enforcement a little later this year. This is the upper I want to put on my RR M16 as they say it functions w/o any problems. I don't know of a price yet but HK has said that they are working on a few things to keep the price down. They are supposed to be working on importing issues as well. I am hoping that they will be under $1200 as that is what some of the other companies are charging on the low end. Some of these actually got on to the civilian market last year and that caused quite a stir as HK was trying to get them back. There was a very limited supply of them so they sold for $2300 each.

Thanks for the info! I just hope they can get their issues resolved and start selling them.

HK has stated, several times in fact, they will NOT be releasing the uppeer for civilian consumption. There were a few, less than 25, IIRC released mistakenly in the early partof 05. HK has tried several times to recliam them, recall them, and take them off the market. They have gone as far as suing several of the known owners to get them back.
HK has no intention of ever building them for the US civi market.

POF-USA and DSA both make a similar upper in terms of the function and the gas system. IIRC, the POF uppers are around $1K and the DSA uppers are slightly more.

It was my understanding that POF is doing a joint project with DSA so those are actually POF uppers on DSA lowers. Colt is supposed to be coming out with a new piston-driven upper and LW has one as well. The POF upper seams to be the most reasonable and I will probably get one of those. Hopefully HK puts their uppers out on the State/Municipal LEO level here shortly and when they do, I will probably get some of those depending on the price.

Ahh, I see. I wondered if POF and DSA were incahoots on that stuff.
Did you see that POF sells 416 lower look-a-likes? It would be kind of neat to use that lower if you were building a new AR.
Can LEO's buy LE restricted equipment for personal use (like a 416 upper)?

Depends on the restrictions. As far as Class III stuff goes, no. But if it is something that is restricted by manufacturer's policy, then yes. I have seen the POF lowers and they are actually very nice. They have checkering on the front of the mag well and they have a very nice trigger. I would'nt mind having one of those for a project gun. I will probably get one of the POF 11" uppers sometime in the future if HK does'nt release their 416 uppers to LE by that point. It also depends on the price as well but I usually spend a little bit more on the guns that I really want so I am satisfied with what I get.

I don't see anything bigger than a 16" on their website. Here's the link --> POF-USA (http://www.pof-usa.com/)

Yeah I saw that too but they show an 18" model in their "pics" section. Guess I just need to call them.

That might be a new rifle as it is posted with their .308 rifle and I don't believe that is available yet. I'm really liking that P-308 Carbine (.308 cal.) 16"Gas Piston Weapon System they show on there.
