OK, it wasn't on me but I was in the ER last night when a guy came in who was loading his 9mm "clip" when a bullet "when off in his hands". I did not personally care for this guy, one of my partners did. Anyway....I asked to see the offending case and it was a (?)steel cased (NOT brass)....(maybe CCI-it was REALLY busy and I wished I'd have taken more time to examine the specifics). The case was torn open at the projectile end (it didn't look like an unsupported case failure) and the primer had an ever so slight dent running across it. It did not appear to have been struck by a firing pin. I was told the guy wasn't hurt bad, pretty lucky.
I'm not a believer in bullets "going off"...I'm not sure what to make of this. The fact that the primer was dented (VERY lightly) would probably be the cause. Pretty weird though.
Oh yeah, if the victim was an OSA member, please post and add the specifics I got wrong or left out. This is not an accusatory flame post, I just found it odd.
