Has anyone been to the gun range on the Canton WMA near Longdale? I am going to check it out. I was just wondering if they have any benches or pick-nik tables.

There is supposedly a 200 yard range there. I need a public 200 yard range, so I am going to check it out.

Let us know what you find. I would much rather shoot outdoors, if possible. I have to be pumped full of claritin this time of year, but I love tornado season.

I was there several years ago. It had a cover and some shooting bench's. Wasn't that bad.
When I was there there were some anti-gunners hanging around bugging us. Pulled out the AK they left right after that.:bolt:

Well I took a trip to Canton today. Nice outdoor range. It has a covered shooting area with a concrete floor. 2 pick-nik tables with a couple carpet covered gun rests. It is 200 yards. I believe it is marked at 50, 100, 150, and 200. There were a couple old target stands, but I would take one just in case. It is on public hunting land, so you need a hunting license to shoot there. Like most outdoor ranges, people have left their trash laying around; but overall it's in good shape.

I also drove through some of the public hunting land. There is quite a bit of land for hunting. And there are several primitive roads running through the land. It looks pretty good. I didn't see any turkeys, but I saw a lot of ducks and armidillos. I didn't ever leave the comfort of my truck either.

I've never been to the range there, but I've hunted the area a couple times. There's some BIG bucks running around there.

If you don't mind driving a little, head out to Black Kettle Grassland. Lots of public land and you can just pull off the road and blast away into a dirt mound.

I have been out that way many times. In fact I used to live out in NW Oklahoma. I have always wanted to climb this hill with 4-wheeler or something.

That is a cool pic. I would want to tack up and ride the hills horseback. Camp out for a few days. I may have to do that this spring. Don't you hate litterbugs? What a shame about Canton.

Yes, I love going horseback. I have been on horses all my life and it is wonderful.

You guys are hitting in my back yard. YG - where in NW Oklahoma did you live? I knew immediately when I saw the pic it was in Glass (gloss) mountains. You're just a few years too late. Some of my best hunting buddies had an uncle who owned lots of acres in the Glass Mountains. Used to hunt ducks there until h*** froze over. Back then, they would have let you four-wheel over that ground until you got sick of it. We haven't hunted there in probably twenty years, and they sold off their land within about the last ten. Getting harder all the time to find places to hunt ...

If you don't mind brushwading, the brush up next to the N. Canadian River on the west end, and the clover/wheat fields on the south side of the lake are thick with deer.
