View Full Version : ???Why Is My Classified Ad Locked???

I'm tired of deleting/editing classifieds ads due to unnecessary bumps.

As per the rules, only ONE bump every day is allowed.
If you have new information, and you are not answering a specific question, then edit your current post.
If you are answering a specific question, that is fine.

If you have unnecessarily bumped your ad within a 24 hour period, and your ad is now locked,
there will be no question as to why.:thumb:

I'm checking into this now.
You should be able to edit your last post for 2-3 days.

There are no problems.
Once a thread is locked, the 'edit' options disappear.

So is if some posts "PM sent" can you post "PM replied too"?

It'd be better if neither of those types of posts existed...
There's really no need at all.

I agree with JP in his above post. That being said, It would be very nice to be able to edit the original post and title way after 2 days.

We thought about that initially but decided against it for buyer/seller protection reasons.

I agree with the bump issue for sure but.....

I can say that I've seen people that have the popups disabled and for whatever reason don't check their pms.

I've never seen a board where "pm sent" was an issue, to me it just enhances communication.

Notice:
I've not made that a hard and fast rule.....I just don't care for it.:wink2:

I'd like to see us copy the classified rules from arfcom. That would please several who have posted above. It prevents a bump for 3 days. The seller must update their original post (or most recent if it's a several day thread). If a buyer posts a "pm sent", the seller can't do the same and double the wasted posts.

I don't completely disagree with this, but BY IN LARGE, most folks on here are good honest people. So I don't think there would be a lot of changing ads to screw people. I agree with extending the editing time for posts. I never under stood why it goes away at all.

We tried that, and it didn't work as well.....

What about no bumping an unmodified add?

Generally the only reason anything has to be bumped is because we're asking too much for it to begin with. (Myself included)

What about just following the rules we already have?
:anyone:

It seems that there are plenty of people here who are capable of that.

What about no bumping an unmodified add?

Generally the only reason anything has to be bumped is because we're asking too much for it to begin with. (Myself included) while that may true in some instances in a lot of instances it allows people to unbury their ad so that people that havent been on in a few days to see them.

as of lately i havent been on as much as i normally on due to a work project that has been demanding a lot of my time. and while i still get on at least once a day i haven't been hitting all the different sections that i normally look in such as the general section and the classifieds.

just because someone somones AD hasn't sold in 10 minutes doesn't necessarily mean that he is asking to much it could mean that they just haven't found someone that is needing it.

im just as guilty as anyone here about buying stuff at a great price even though i don't need it. then re selling it later. sometimes at a higher price

personally i have no issues with people bumping their ads or posting PM sent or replied.

what gets me is people posting 20 different ads when they could easily be done in one or people re posting the exact same Ad at the exact same price that they had it at before and it didn't sell before. (you people know who you are)

Just FYI you may want to change the rules in the classifed to reflect the 24 hour period rule. As it states right now atleast the one that says to read before posting states that you can bump once a day. For instance now you have someone has had thier ad locked that put in thier ad 16 hours ago (yesterday) and then bumped it 6 hours ago (today). I only say thing because that person followed the rules as it is stated in the rules as I understand them but still got locked out.

This just happened to me. I read this: http://www.okshooters.com/forums/announcement.php?f=24&a=5 and got the once a day rule, but my thread was locked because I bumped before 24 hours had passed.

I guess now I know, eh?

You were the one I was referring to when I made the suggestion.

We'll do something about the issue. It had just gotten to the point that too many were abusing the system with bumping and BS posts. It'll get worked out, just bear with us.

If you think you have a legit question or appeal about something, send a PM to a mod (if possible the mod that locked your thread) and say something privately. Just make sure you have turned on your PM's.

Never had a doubt that ya'll wouldn't, just thought I would point it out. Figured it would come up again. Thanks.

To clarify....
The rule is: "once a day" YG's post was erroneuos.
Sorry about the confusion.

There has been a change to Rule #1, so please review it.

It is regarding posting third-party items for sale.

In addition to what YG stated in the original post of this thread, your ad can be locked for any violation of the classified rules so please review them before posting so as to keep this from happening.
thanks.
If your ad is locked, the best thing to do is to look at your ad and compare it to the classified rules.
Somewhere there will be a discrepancy between the two. ;)

I have an add posted that I would like to edit, and post new price drops, but due to the time limit, I am now not able to, plus I have an item still listed that has sold, so I would like to remove that item, if there is anyway for me to do this one more time please let me know.

Thanks,
Leighton

If it's been more than a day, then just post a new post with updates.
The sold item: Just post "Sold", and we'll take care of it.
