I went out Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, I called a big gobbler in to about 50 yards from me. He would not cross a very small dry creekbed. It's not even a creek, just a drain between 2 big hills. Man, he really had my heart pounding. I surprized him and he surprized me!!

I went back out very early Sunday and set up a decoy in the same area. I made a good blind in front of me and was set up by 6:00 AM. I was on the other side of the dry creek this time. It was a beautiful morning as I watched the sun come up. Just after sun up, I heard 4 or 5 gobblers. I started calling and 2 gobblers were answering. 1 was quite a ways off and I don't think he ever started my way. The other one was hot and headed my way. Guess what, he was on the other side of the creek. He came down to the creek and stopped there. He was gobbling like crazy. I don't think he ever saw the decoy. Oh well, I have his number.

Overall I had 2 good days of hunting, even though I didn't get a bird yet. I saw lots of wildlife. Dressing in head to toe camo and sitting still, you get to see some good stuff. I had several deer walk within 25 yards of me, and they didn't know I was there!!! Midday Sunday, I was easing through the countryside, stopping periodically to call. I stopped under a shade tree, put everything down, called, and then was getting a drink from my canteen. I heard something purring behind me. I thought it was a turkey. I turned around slowly and guess what, a big bobcat staring at me. He was about 30 feet in front of me. This was not a house kitty, this was a big bobcat. I waved my hand thinking he would run off. No... He started walking right at me. I said F*@k, I drew my Glock 32 and lined up the sights. About that time he had a change of heart and disappeared into the woods. I was about half a second away from pulling the trigger. That was awesome!!!

I was hunting down around Sulphur, Oklahoma. Yes, it was very windy Saturday. The gobbler I ran into Saturday was just luck I guess. Where I stopped to call was only about 75-100 yards from the bird. I never heard another turkey all day, before or after that. I ran into him about 9:00AM.

How many of you were like me and did not take a jacket on your hunt, and froze your a$$ off saturday morning. BTW, saw about 35 birds, 6 toms, could not get any of them to come close to us though. Saw 6 deer, one 8 point buck, an armadilo(sp), and a lot of cows!

I started the day with 3 shirts on, and a jacket. I was comfy. It didn't take long to get rid of those layers though!!!
