Due to placement of magazine catch, you can modify Beretta Hi-caps to work flawlessly in this pistol and still use the same magazine in it's original gun.
Does anybody know how to do this?

You just have to drill a hole in the beretta mag in the same location as on an XD mag. However the beretta mags are a little bit longer and you can damage the ejector in the XD if you "slam it home".

Just curious but what is it you are wanting to do, get cheaper mags for your XD or get a cheap mag to convert because you have an XD and beretta, etc.

I don't have an XD or beretta. I've been thinking about getting an XD and wanted to know about options for cheap mags.
Some of the XD mags I've looked at are $25-$39. The beretta mags were $7-$9.

Im gonna get an XD sometime soon. With the mags, if you want reliability, id go with the factory mags. Those beretta mags that are $7-$9 are usually offbrand and have sketchy reliability. People that have berettas say that you should only get the offical Beretta mags or Mec-gar mags. Mec-gar is making the newer XD mags and hold 16 rounds compared to the original 15. I think pro-mag is making mags for the XD, but I wouldn't trust them fully and cost as much as the XD factory mags. pistol-gear.com has the XD mags for $22.99(not sure what shipping is), thats as about as cheap as I have seen them.

You're probably right about the reliability. I might as well pay a couple of bucks extra and get a factory mag. It comes with 2 and I'll only need to buy 1 more.
Are you looking at the 3in 4in or 5in model?

I am probably going to get the service model. I like the look of the tactical, and the extra weight would probably manage recoil better. The compact I might get if I was going to carry it, but if I was going to carry it I could probably carry the service. If I was going to get one just for range shooting I would go for the tactical model, but I am going keep it around the house for protection(although my shotgun will be the first thing I go for) and might carry it one day. I don't have my CCW yet, but I thinking about going with a Kel-tec P11 in the pocket to start with. I think it will fit-in with the clothes I wear most often.
The other big decision is what caliber to get the XD in. I am between the 9mm and 40. Both rounds are not real expensive and both are proven, but the 9mm is a bit cheaper. I plan to get a Beretta Storm 9mm one day and that would mean that I could stock up on the 9mm and not worry about another caliber.

I'm definately going with the 9mm. At $3.86/box you won't blow the bank. I have 3 9mm Glocks and a 9mm Walther. Once I get the XD , I'll have to buy ammo by the case and not the box. I've tried 40sw, but it was not much cheaper than 45acp ammo. If I want to spend the money on ammo, I'll shoot a 45. For range shooting I normally use 9mm.
I'm still undecided on sub, service, or tactical. The service model would be a perfect addition to my G19 and P99. The sub could be an extra option for concealed carry. I have been wanting a G34 and the tactical model *might* cure my problem. More than likely, I'll go with the tactical. I already have 2 good carry options and a P3at for deep concealment.

I carried the P11 for a short while. I gave it up for the G26. The P11 was not near the quality of a Glock or XD. If you are already considering getting an XD, you might think about going with the sub compact. It's not much heavier than a P11 and will be much more fun to shoot, more accurate, and more reliable. Also the sub XD gear up package has 2 10rd mags, 1 16rd mag with ext sleeve (gives same grip feel as service model), and it has a holster with it. http://www.davidsonsinc.com/consumers/subsites/inven_product.asp?dealer_id=621563&item=XD9801HCSP&instock=all&manufact_combo=Springfield+Armory&mod_ser_combo=XD&category_combo=None&model=XD&g_type=None&act_type=&finish_type=None&calib_combo=None&sight_class_combo=None&price_range=None&left_handed=&youth=&Offset_rec=0&num_rec=50&item_num=

How did you carry the P11, and how do you carry the G26? I think the glock would be better for pocket carry than the XD just because there isn't much to snag anything on, but Glocks just feel uncomfortable in my hand compared to the XD. I was going to get the P11 due mainly to the price of it mainly, but I guess if its going to protect me it should be really reliable. Was also looking at the option of getting the 9mm taurus revolver, but it only holds 5rnds and isn't quick to reload.

I carried the P11 in the pocket or small of back with the belt clip. I carry the G26 in a pocket holster. The P11 will give you half the speed and accuracy (on a good day) that the Glock/XD will. You definately get what you pay for.
I sold my P11.
I will never get rid of my G26.
I had an XD, sold it, regret it, and now looking for another one.

What brand of holster do you have for the G26. I know alot of people make holsters for them. I saw one that looked interesting it looked like nylon or black fabric and had some kind of coating on the outside that made it adhere slightly to the pocket.

I'm using an Uncle Mikes pocket holster ($12 or less). It matches your description. I've heard the DeSantis Nemesis is a little better (about $18), but I couldn't find one locally and didn't want to wait for one in the mail.

You mentioned Glocks feeling uncomfortable in your hands. Have you tried the subcompact G26. It feels a little diffent than a 19/23/32 etc and much different than a 29/30/etc?

Actually I hadn't, is that "bulge" in a different location? I am going to get a full-size XD so I would probably get a sub XD to match it.

It feels different to me.
I have a 19 and 26 and also have a 21 and 30. I can certainly see the point in getting a fullsize and sub XD.

When we finally get together at H&H, I'm going to have to bring my xdsc and you're going to have to bring your P99. I have come close to buying one of those several times, but have decided against it since I have the 19.
I shot the smith version a couple of years ago when Smith was at H&H and I really liked it. I'd like to shoot it again.....

It feels incredible. I need to get another magazine for it and take it to the pin shoot.
