I am sure this has been discussed several times before. What is the best defencive ammo for a g19. Light and fast, heavy and slow. I like heavy bullets but i dont base that on any real experence. I was thinking about federal hst. but I dont know which (124 or 147)would be the best for the g19. I respect the opions on this site. Thanks.

You can't go wrong with the Federal HST 147gr from www.streichers.com for $14/50rd.

I also like Ranger 127gr+P+ and 147gr,Gold dot 147gr and CorBon 125gr+p

The Ranger 127gr +P+ is a great/proven round and offers the highest muzzle energy of any 9mm except for the Cor-Bon 115gr+p and Ranger (non-T) 115gr+P+

I have speer gold dot 147s now but will replace with 147 HST when time to reorder; $14/50 is hard to argue with. I'd feel comfortable with any of the premium defense loads with heavy (for the caliber) hollowpoints.

Jp the last time I ordered ammo on line i had to pay $20 hazzard shipping charge, does www.streichers.com do this?

A $20 hazzardous shipping fee should have only been on primers and/or powder for reloading, never loaded ammo. I'd call and ask for a refund from the company that charged it. Loaded ammo simply has to be shipped by ground carrier (not USPS) and the package marked "ORM-D" if the quantity is large enough.

I like the middle weight loads. In 9mm that would be 124-127 gr. bullets. I think they give you the best of both worlds. Gold Dots, Rangers, or Hydra-Shoks will serve you well. My personal favorite is the Gold Dot, but I wouldn't think twice about carrying the others. The differences are negligible. The G19 will handle +P loads just fine, but the 4" barrel will produce enough velocity in standard loads also. Have fun!!!

Natchez shooter supply charged me $20 to ship 2 bricks of aguila 22lr. That was 2 years ago.

If $20 was the total shipping, that's just a high shipping (and handling) charge. If it was $20 plus shipping costs (plus their handling fee...) then I'd talk to them about it. I would expect a UPS ground charge of roughly $10 for 2 bricks of 22.

My last order for powder/primers and some bullets was almost $40. $20 for hazardous material plus another $18 for 40 pounds of reloading components.

they charge shipping and HAZMAT but to put it in perspective, the last time I ordered two boxes of 9mm it was around $35 shipped.

^^^^ Even at $35 for 2 boxes of good self defense ammo isn't bad

That's a good price for a box of 50. Who sells them for that? I haven't bought any in over a year.

Outdoor America. Normal price is about $14.99 depending on caliber.

A few times a year they have a sale with 10% off all ammo. That's the time to clean up on the GDHP's.
