How does everyone deal with a swinger target. Is it in the lead or the pause before it changes direction. Or a quick double tap. I am shooting a 9. Thanks in advance for any help.

Depends on the swinger and/or cover but I try to hit it before it changes directions.
When the head dips,I nail it.

Do try to lead it or do you hold on the a zone or the head? If you lead how much?

I never fire "double taps". I believe in "fast is smooth" and that you should have an individual sight picture for each shot fired.

I don't lead on swingers, but aim where I intend to hit.
Some people do lead, I don't know if it works for them, that's cool if it does... but I don't.

For example: My dad and I were shooting the Missouri State IDPA, they had really fast movers there on wires. I'd say they were prolly going 15+ MPH at about 25-30 yds. It was crazy. My dad led them, and all shots hit directly where he led. Which was to the right of the -0 or A zone.

honestly,I don't put too much thought into it.
When the swinger starts from the right for example,I try to hit it as the head makes the first dip to the left with 2 or 3 quick hits.
Suprisingly,I've had pretty good luck with swingers doing it this way.

I don't lead the swingers/movers either. I learned the hard way at Missouri too.

Although, two years ago at the OK State match in Altus they had two swingers next to each other. When they both swung toward each other there was a split second when the two heads crossed each other. Yep, I took the shot and with two bullets got 4 zero head shoots. The S.O. was so impressed he gave it to me even though I didn't shoot the minimum shoots for the stage. :thumb:

For me no leading, but I never follow the target with the gun. I pick a point and let the target come to me.

(In fact my TulsaGunGuy picture on the left is me shooting that stage...)

I just wanted to add....
My theory depends on how the swinger is activated.
If it is steel activated,I do as I stated above.
If it is manually activated by the shooter (like the BBQ grill at Badlands) then I shoot it when it dips back to it's original position.
I do this because it's too hard for me to outdraw the first dip, after having just negotiated a spatula attatched to a cable of abnormal length. ;)
