State Rep. Mike Shelton said House Bill 2696 has placed the power of the law into the wrong hands.
"During states of emergency, I think police need total control. They don't need to worry who has guns and who doesn't. If the governor calls for Oklahomans to relinquish their guns, the public needs to do so," Shelton said.

if only we had enough police officers to be everywhere, all the time......
i'm sure every LEO would love to be present everytime a crime is about to occur... As a citizen, I'd love it if that were the case. They're spread too thin & overworked as it is, i can't imagine asking them to do more without adding 2,000% more manpower. that dumbass shelton is calling for more work outta our boys in blue, does he have a way to pay for it?

AMEN!!! If i understand things right (not politically correctly) the police "serve and protect" by enforcing the law once a crime has been committed, not prevent crime by being bodyguards. Same with law, the law is not designed to prevent crime by removing freedom, but to provide a framework and standard within which to punish those who abuse/misuse their rights and freedoms. Thus removing gun RIGHTS and making them a PRIVILEGE is out of the wrong motive. It is designed to PREVENT crime by not letting the gun out in the first place, thus punishing the law abiding citizen, while the criminal will disregard the law (after all, he is a CRIMINAL) and steal, or otherwise obtain a gun, and do whatever it is anyways. As opposed to punishing ONLY the one who commits the crime, and doing so in a swift, punishing manner. (not politically correct, i think) Anyways, I'll get off my soap box...

FYI, Mike Shelton (D) is from District 97, which looks to be a few miles north of Tinker AFB. Anybody up there misrepresented by this clown?

Not to be overly critical....I voted on the poll too...but we all really need to call our state reps and make sure THEY understand where we stand on this. Make it clear through the legislature that Mike Shelton is way off base!
Call them tomorrow.
Cheers!
emailed my rep, and CC'd the Speaker of the House, and the goof ball Mike Shelton:
Dear Representative Jones,
I have read that Rep. Mike Shelton has called for Gov. Henry to allow law enforcement to confiscate legally owned firearms by law abiding citizens during times of crisis. I am writing to express my extreme concern regarding a request such as this. As was seen in Louisiana during hurricane Katrina, the police were unable to maintain order in the initial stages of that disaster. By confiscating legal weapons, regular citizens were unable to protect themselves from the criminal element. I am disappointed in Rep. Shelton for thinking that the public that elected him is not competent enough nor capable to protect themselves, their families, or their property.
I urge you to vote against any legislation that would deny law abiding citizens of Oklahoma their right protect themselves, especially in a time of extreme crisis.
Sincerely,
I'll let you know if I get any response.

I also told him he was in the same I.Q. level as Ray Nagin.

Rep Shelton doesn't understand the fact that our guns aren't confiscatable, end of story. This isn't New Orleans.
Hope he ends up in the unemployment line after the next election.

Posted this in another thread, but it seems appropriate for this one as well.
My e-mail to the Honorable Mike Shelton (sent moments ago):
Sir,
Just wanted you to know that my firearms are UNCONFISCATABLE. I am in posession of a few inalienable rights that say so.
Sincerely,
