This is the email that I sent to him:
Sir,

As a veteran of 23 years serving this great nation in the Army, and a voting Oklahoman, I must say that I am almost speechless at your total disregard of OUR right to protect ourselves and our families! How dare you make such a statement such as “During states of emergency, I think police need total control. They don’t need to worry who has guns and who doesn’t. If the governor calls for Oklahomans to relinquish their guns, the public needs to do so.” Who exactly are you representing here? Why would there be a worry as to guns anyway? I earnestly hope that you dont plan on a career in politics, representing us. Are you planning on providing the funding yourself for the thousands of additional police that will have to be hired to "protect" us all? Most of us are proud of the fact that we neither want nor need the government to provide us with everything. Are we really to have no say at all in our lives? Do you really know whats better for me than I do?

His reply : Thank you for your comments. God bless you.

WTH?????? Maybe he's feeling a little heat?

I'm surprised you got a reply from the fellow. . .I sent a *very* civil email to him and haven't heard anything back.

Also sent my (Democrat) rep an email. . .thanking him for being an *Oklahoma* Democrat instead of a New England Democrat like Rep Shelton appears to be. . .

As an Oklahoma Law Enforcement Officer, I am angered and confused at the way you are attempting to trample on the rights of the common Oklahoman. My job is to uphold and protect the Constitution of both the State of Oklahoma, and the United States of America. To think that this type of Gestapo like gun confiscation is allowed anywhere in either of these documents is incorrigible.

We, as officers, do not need the right, nor the ability, to assume control of the firearms in this state. The vast majority of the owners of these firearms are responsible, mature adults enjoying and exercising a right that is paramount to the freedom of the United States of America. Please reconsider your attempts to quash this freedom.

Way to go. But I'll bet that upper level (no offense) LEOs would never make the same statements. You will probably get these type of responses from the rank and file. I should check with a very good friend of mine who is chief of an over 150 man dept here in the state.

Chuck, I think youd be surpried, or at least I hope so. Most cops with ANY street time are very pro gun. The problems you do run into are those "political administrators" who are hired in with no street credibility.

It makes me physically ill to consider that I would be ordered to confiscate guns from someone who has a right to have them. A lot of cops seem to forget that they were not always cops, and that the laws applied to them the same way they do to the non cops they deal with now.

By the way, most of the guys at work think I have a tin foil hat at home.

I've yet to hear from the goofball regarding my email. I expected as much.

I also sent a short, civil (yet resolute) email, and have yet to get a reply. Here's the text of the email I sent:

"Dear Rep. Shelton,

I think you are totally wrong concerning your view that the police should have the power to confiscate legally owned firearms in crisis situations. This smacks of totalitarianism. Frightening."

Hell, I saw it! J/K

Anyway, maybe he replied to me because I identified myself as a OK voter?

My e-mail to the Honorable Mike Shelton (sent moments ago):

Sir,

Just wanted you to know that my firearms are UNCONFISCATABLE. I am in posession of a few inalienable rights that say so.

Sincerely,

Oklahoma Voter

P.S. See you at the polls...
