Swap shooting idea

I was wondering if anyone would like the idea of having a swap shoot.

What I am envisioning is for people to post that their interested, what they would like to shoot, and what they have to offer in return. I am not proposing you loan someone a firearm, but rather meet at a range to try out each others irons. Also, maybe a good stipulation would be to require only factory loaded ammo to reduce any potential problems...

Me, I am in OKC and have rifles ranging from .22lr to .375 H&H mag. Shotguns include a couple .410's and a Benelli 12 gauge.
For pistols I have only semi-auto's. I've got a couple S&W .22lr guns, one Kel-tec .380 acp, one Star 9mm, and all the rest are chambered for the potent 10mm.

BTW, I'm a newbie here on OKShooters, but I have frequented GlockTalk, 10mmtalk, gunbroker, and others...

Members here frequently meet at the range. Just keep an eye on the forum, many people post when they are going to the range.

Good to see you here Bambihunter!! I love the idea - we tried here in Tulsa last fall - it just fell through. We should try it again

I'd go for it. Just pick a couple times, take the initiative, and see what goes down. I'd meet at the range just to have people to shoot at.... er... with, yeah, with. :gun2:

Uh, yeah ... my rednekk compooter must huv timed out. Have more long guns than short guns, including some weird stuff. Wouldm like to shoot some mainstream stuff that I don't oan and can't afford wood nglady let uther fokes shoot what I've got in exchanghe for what they got. Except'n if they want to shoot weirdweird stuff like the .375 WEATHERBY mag, they gonna' have to buy their own ammo if they don't want' to shoot handloads ... do I hear banjoes?!?!?!?!

From personal experience, Oklahoma meets via and GT, OKS and otherwise have fallen through with like clockwork. It seems extraordinarily hard to get any appreciable number of people together at the range at the same time. Why this is, I do not know...bad timing/scheduling, a very blase "unless something better comes up" towards the event, the very disparate schedules we all work, gas costs, as well as many other factors I'm certain have all played a part. Personally, I think a get-together swap shoot like this is a wonderful idea, but some of these issues need to be worked out beforehand so perhaps we can get a little bit better turnout....or for that matter, any turnout at all.

I have went to the range with several members here. I have never been with a big group, but it only takes 1 other person to swap guns and have a good time.

bambihunter
05-03-2006, 09:30 PM
I wouldn't expect a big group, although in the right setting that could be a blast too. I meant more one on one or small groups. It's nice to try something one might not have considered owning. I have bought a few guns over the years that I wouldn't have, if not for shooting someones irons and liking it.

I'm going to try to get to the range either the 20th or 27th. My next two weekends look full right now.

I shoot with some various friends on a regular basis... And this is bascially what we all do. I'll shoot any gun that someoen offers... Especially if its one I haven't shot before. Last week I tore some huge holes in a Smurf Man with a highly potent P-22. lol

For those in the OKC area, I'm thinking noon on May 20th at Banner Road Rifle Range. This range has plenty of space to spread out, particularly if we actually get a fair amount of people to join in.

I can bring various 10mm's, and maybe even my custom .375 H&H mag, .44 carbine, or whatever... There's a couple that are NIB so I likely won't open them up.
:gun2: :gun1:

Here's what I've got to swap trades with:

Seriously though.... from another forum :teach:

1. Public Range - Canadian Ranges. Take I-40 west and get off on Banner Road. Go South about a mile. At the 1st road past the school take a right. About 2 miles down that road on the left you will see the sign. It's an excellent range with covered lanes. It has a pistol/22 range. 50 yard range, 75 yard range and a 100 yard range. It's run by an elderly man about 75 or so who is very friendly and very, very knowledgeable. You can shoot all day for $8. No range officer. If you go anytime but hunting season during the week you'll pretty much have the whole place to yourself. Saturday can be busy. Sunday mornings it is generally uncrowded except during the opening days of hunting season. The only down side is the longest range is 100 yards.

No full-auto's (at least in "rock and roll" mode) at Banner. Pistols are fine, as are suppressed guns. Speaking of which, I just bought a .22 suppressor, but haven't filed the paperwork yet nor paid the fee...

The Kel-tec P3AT is no problem, I almost always have it on me. I can bring the Benelli SBE, but I don't know if we can shoot it at the pistol/rifle range. I don't THINK it would be a problem. I can bring my NIB Kimber Stainless Target II. I have two of them, a NIB one, and a range gun but I loaned out my shooter (believe me, the list is VERY short of who I'd loan guns to) :gun1:

Does anyone have any other requests?

I know already that I'm bringing a Springfield Omega Match (10mm), Kel-tec P3AT (.380 acp), Delta Gold Cup (10mm), I.A.I. Javelina (10mm), Star Megastar (10mm), Star Firestar (9mm), and one of the S&W .22's.

Here's the updated shortlist:
Benelli Super Black Eagle 12GA
Colt Delta Elite 10mm
Colt Delta Gold Cup 10mm
Colt Double Eagle 10mm
CVA Hawkins rifle .50 (down for refinishing)
Federal Ordnance Inc. Mauser 98 custom .375 H&H Mag (no ammo)
Glock 20 10mm
Glock 29 10mm
Irwindale Arms, Inc. (I.A.I.) Javelina 10mm
Kel-tec P3AT .380 ACP
Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm (only have my NIB one right now)
North American Arms 22LR .22lr
Remington 700 BDL 300 Win Mag
Remington 700 MLS 50 (I'd rather not break this one out since they take awhile to clean)
Remington 1100 LW .410

The YHEC is a program developed exclusively for hunter education course graduates from North America up to 19 years of age. YHEC provides graduates with a unique opportunity to test their abilities at a variety of hunting techniques. Through completing a series of events conducted under simulated hunting conditions, participants walk away with an appreciation of all methods of hunting and gain knowledge of all types of game as they learn from the top hunting educators in all of North America. This training ensures the future of the American hunting tradition as a safe, viable, recreational activity the entire family can enjoy.

I have never seen this topic before.........but.........I was searching for P3AT info and came across it.

I would be into a group get together. I also belong to Tulsa Gun Club.

Right now I only own a G38.

Looking at buying this next week a G17 or G19 and a G26 or P3AT (for the wife).

If anything gets set up that would be fun for me. I just don't think to check this part of the forum.

Thanks JBW, I'm glad to hear from somebody else who don't own enough guns to arm a third world nation. I was feeling a little emasculated there.

Does RCGC or TGC allow selective fire weapons?

I only own four guns:

Glock 20 - 10mm
HK91 - .308
MAC-10 - 9mm
AR-7 - .22LR

I keep insisting that spray and pray IS a legitimate shooting style.

I DO love my Glock. In 1979 a friend asked me to describe my ideal handgun and while I didn't know it at the time I was describing the Glock 20.

But sometimes you just wanna rock and roll.
