Governor Brad Henry, who really isn't a bad guy for a Democrat, has signed two pro gun bills in Oklahoma. The first is modeled on Florida's expanded "Castle Doctrine" self defense law, which not only takes away the legal obligation to retreat in case of violent attack, but prevents scumbags from suing you if you shoot or harm them in legal self defense. The second bill bans the police from confiscating legally owned guns from law abiding citizens during times of crisis, such as the Katrina situation in NO. Two thumbs up for Gov. Henry for signing two great bills.

I called my state rep. and state senator to request that they support Bill 2615/2696, the “Stand Your Ground Law,” this morning.

Anyone who chooses to exercise his 2nd Ammendment Rights should do same:

Contact your State Representative at (405) 521-2711 and ask him or her to support HB 2615 and HB 2696.

HB2696 was signed into law on April 24.

Sorry, MY MISTAKE. The governor has signed HB2696 (preventing confiscation) into law. I assume HB2615 is still on his desk. I emailed him concerning both bills, and his office sent two separate letters, both saying he had signed 2696 on April 24. I foolishly assumed that one letter said 2615.

That's good to hear about 2696.

Only reason I knew to call was because of the NRA/ILA e-mail alert I got yesterday.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that 2615 is sure to follow...

Gotta love Oklahoma, where even the Dem's are pro-gun...sortof. ;)

We don't leave tham a choice. It's kind of like a version of what the FBI told Darnell on "My name is Earl":

Dem: "Do I still hate guns?"

Okies: "Not if you want to live" (Politically of course) :)

You may be right. For some reason his office sent me two identical letters and I just assumed one was about one bill and one was about the other.

HB 2615 has been in House Appropriations committee since 5/01. It does have a "do pass" recommendation from Senate. I'm hopeful they'll add the "emergency" clause to it; otherwise it would be effective Nov. 1 as it's now written. House still has to approve some Senate minor changes and then Gov. has to sign. Not law yet.
