Sapulpa - Happy Hollow Gun Club, 10103 S. 193rd W Ave., Sapulpa, OK 74066.
Phone: 918-248-7499
Facilities include: Outdoor Pistol (10, 25, 50 and 100 yds), Outdoor Rifle (25 to 200 yds),

Nice place, very nice people, well organized, $10 a person, every 15 minutes you take a break and go put a new target, etc... I had good time, and their hours are pretty good too.

TS,

Happy hollow is my preferred place to shoot. Mr. Napier runs a tight ship and alot of people don't like the place due to the fact he doesn't allow rapid fire, but it is the safest range (IMO) around. Also a very clean range with great facilities.

I get a kick out of Mr. Napier... he rags on me on occasion with my Glocks or AR's (he is a bolt action and wheel gun guy), but he has forgotten more about guns than I'll know, and he is always willing to assist you if you have equipment problems.

Thanks for the info.
Too bad no rapid fire though.
What does he consider rapid fire?

There needs to be a 3 second break in between every shot.

What is the reason for no rapid fire? I've never heard of that before!

Safety issues. He wants every shot well aimed and thought out. It's his gig and he's the boss..... it's still a very nice facility.

I can't stand the Old Man who owns the place. His three second rule is not for the person who wants to work double taps or other ccw related practices. While I will agree that his range is nice, there are better places to shoot. I will never go back there and spend my money.

I went there for a long time, long before Don had the place. The previous owner didn't allow any rapid fire either. Of course at the time my main interest was in shooting a varmint rifle or T/C Contender off the bench. It wasn't a problem. As I got into more pistol shooting (semi-autos) and semi-auto rifles, the place just wasn't for me any more and I joined Red Castle. If you go to the range once a month, it's cheaper there.

I do think HH is a nice range, and as long as you can wait 3 seconds between shots it's just fine. I also don't think you'll ever find a safer place to shoot than HH.

Happy Hollow is to the gun range community
as Dongs is to the gun shop community.

In my opinion, I'd rather risk my life at the free public range in Wagoner.

I used to go there before getting a membership to Red Castle. I didn't like the 3 second rule either but I noticed after going there a lot. If no one else was around he did let me shoot a little faster. Seemed like as long as it was clear I was still in control and not just ripping off shots as fast as possible. He didn't say anything. Then if others were around he always called down people for rapid fire!

I liked the facility and would recommend it to others.

Yeah, Don is a nice guy. His voice is just a little gruff. It's also a fun place to shoot some clays once in a while, especially with 4 or more people. You can get to know him a little better while shooting clays. Also if you're nice to him he'll be nice to you. I would'nt want it any other way.

Don is the epitome of being "set in his ways". He may be a hard guy to like for some, but he really is a good guy!

His son Lendell is a riot! That was where I went before I joined SSSC.

I've thrown alot of lead at the Hollow. Perfect place to shoot, and yes the punch card does pay off. Staff is all Great too. Just watch out for the "Range Commandos" alot can be learned from some of them trust me!

This place is on the end of my list of places to shoot. When I shoot my handguns, I do it to try and practice defending myself. The 1 shot every three second rule is stupid and prohibits me from doing what I'm going to the range to do. Yes, the lady that was working there the couple times I went was very nice, but nice doesn't change the fact that their rules are basically against me. Try taking your 9mm SBR with new silencer to a range and only shot one round every 3 seconds....impossible. ;)

It isn't a bad facility, but for me it just doesn't suit my needs/wants as a shooter.

I suppose it's better than nothing and I'm pretty sure the majority of shooters aren't too wound up about the 3sec. rule.
I couldn't live with it tho', unless it was my only option I guess.

That said, I would like to go some time just to check it out and I wouldn't let the 3sec. rule keep me from having a good time with my friends...ya' know?
But definitely not a great place for any real defensive practice.

I Agree with you guys on the three second deal too. Sometimes its kinda limiting, but I can always go to Wagoner WMA for that, and I've been lucky to get some good "by myself" time there. The organization at the Hollow (breaks in shooting) is a big plus for me. Kinda makes you feel better when going downrange. The rifle end I really like with good tables and wood blocks and available sand bags and spotting scopes. You can usually rake in quite a bit of free brass too.

A couple of years ago a couple of us did our CCL class there and found the
group to be great and the range to be well managed and safe. We weren't into any rapid fire but keeping the range safe for everyone can't be criticized very much. Their rates are much cheaper than most too and that is nice.

I think that if you don't shoot often enough to justify joining a place like Red Castle, Happy Hollow is a good place to shoot. However, if you shoot more than once a month you're stupid if you don't join a private range because the facilities are nicer and you have a lot more freedom in terms of how you can shoot.

WAGONER RANGE......Straight down 51East highway all the way into Wagoner, thru stoplight @ 51/69 intersection (wal-mart is on south side here), continue on thru town thru I think 2 more lights, the last one of which there is a Mexican fast food restaraunt on south side. Follow out of town about 2-3 miles (Guessing) and its on south side right accross from the Rodeo grounds. Better think twice about going now unless you plan on swimming..................it floods really bad, you wont be able to get but about 10 feet past the fence for at least a couple of weeks............if it doesnt rain any more. Good luck, long drive, lotsa water!!!!!

I go out there quite a bit. The 3 second rule is no fun, but for most people that shoot there its fine. The rifle range is perfect for shooting the 10/22, but any of the long range guys will be unhappy with the limited 200 yard range. Don is an interesting character for sure. I like him though. He is hilarious when he is out sweeping up brass and rambling about this and that.

A few years back, I took my brand new Remington 710 in 30-06 (still in the box) out there. It was my first time on his range. He asked about my shooting experience, what I brought to shoot, and if it was sighted in. After answering all his questions and hearing all about the rules of the range, I got myself situated at one of the benches. The gun was suposedly bore sighted but at 50yds it wasn't even on the paper. After the 3rd shot, he touched me on the shoulder and said "I thought you said it was bore sighted?! Do you know where that bullet is going?" I did - it was high left. He asked if he could bore sight it for me to which I gladly gave my permission. He took it to his office and returned in just a few minutes. As he walked back toward me, he asked if I would allow him a couple shots. I did, and he had the windage dead on, and in two more shots was exactly where it needed to be. As he handed me the gun he said "reach out there and tickle that trigger and see if it works for you." It was right on for the next 3 rounds, and he said "You've got no excuse now if you can't hit what your aiming at." The next round I moved the target out to 100yds and shot an amazing 4 shot group (for me). I know there are those out there that don't like the 710, but for me it's a great fit.

Ahaha.......I bought a new lever gun, never fired, and took it out to the hollow. I got the elevation adjusted quickly, but was havein' trouble with the windage. I took it in to Don and he asked how far off it was. I showed him with the old thumb and index finger method how far to the left it was off from center, waving my fingers around in the air. He put it in the fixture, whacked the back sight with a mallet, and said "There you go.", and handed it back to me.

I took it back to the bench, and it was "dead-on" nothing else needed. He also tweeked my red-dot on my .223 for me. Super nice guy!

Happy Hollow is great in my books, Don is a great guy. He helped me tweak my .270 a little and was very friendly. For $10 you really can't go wrong.

The 3 second rule is in effect when there are a lot of people out there or people on the range he doesn't know. If your a regular and he knows you know what your doing he doesn't mind. He's just a safety nut, which is a good thing.

Was out there last night sighting in my new 308, had a buddy with me that was shooting my subcompact faster than a round every 3 sec and Don didn't even care. Granted we were the only ones there.

Try it out! Great prices on ammo also

Went there this weekend for the first time with my 11 yr old daughter. We are new range junkies and have only shot at Tulsa Fire Arms. Wanted to try an outdoor. Didn't have membership at Red Castle. This is the same distance from Owasso as RCGC. If we begin going regularly, RCGC may be a better deal. My Range Fee was $10, but my daughter (under 12) was only $5 and HE OFFERED. Don could seem a little gruff at first, but we felt very comfortable there. There were a couple of pistol shooters, and a few rifle shooters. We shot both. Really like the set-up there. My rifle was way off, and was running out of time to sight it in at 100 yds. I'll ask for his expertise next time and will be back. Would have to go once per week with my daughter to justify the cost of USSA which is VERY convenient to Owasso. 3 second rule didn't bother me much. Guess I'm too cheap to rip off too many rounds too fast. Don does seem like a guy that would be a little flexible if the range isn't too crowded and he knows you. I felt extremely safe with my daughter there. Primary concern.

I've been out there quite a bit, as I prefer outdoor (since I pretty much only shoot my cast boolits), and I've had dealings with Don.

While I might not be a regular, I go out there at least once a month to put at least 500rds down range (since I cannot afford to purchase a membership at Red Castle or another - In college). One time I think I broke 700 in a day. But anyways, Don, probably since he doesn't really know me, has often been somewhat rude. He is strict on safety, and has a nice range. However, for someone like myself, and having had the training that I have had, is very well aware of what is safe and what is not. If I should decide to shoot faster then 3 secs, I should be able to. As it is part of "TRAINING" and thus isn't recreational.

On the otherhand, he has from time to time told me and the one or two other people down at the pistol side (when nobody else was at the range) to talk among ourselves and decide when we wanted to go down range and check targets. And when the range is empty he is somewhat easier to deal with.

But for someone that has been in the military, been to their super strict ranges, gone to war, dealt with safety standards over there on multiple occasions, and has been a regular shooter for 20 years; His range has a few too many kinks in the ability for it to offer training needs. Of course maybe its because I'm a "younger" guy. But I'm far from being right out of highschool.

Ok, my rant is done.

i have been several times and like it just fine. yes, it would be great to rapid fire or double tap, but he is paying the insurance and can get sued so he makes the rules.

don has helped me get sighted in on more than one gun.

is there another public ranged that has 200 yards? i don't know of any.

BE CAREFUL - Don was not there and the woman was running it. called range cold. i walked down the line to see what people were shooting and a young guy had a lever action with the receiver closed and the hammer back. i almost yelled for everyone to stop and get off the range. went to woman and told her and she talked to him politely but not with enough emphasis for him to realize what he just did. i walked over and said do you realize what you just did. he had a blank look on his face like he wasn't bothering anyone. i proceed to tell him how dangerous that was and he could of killed someone and you have got to understand that when she says actions open to open your action. i think he got the point.

but look right and left and don't assume that everyone has their action open when the range is cold.

Happy Hollow is a great safe range to shoot at been there many times. Like everyone else dont like 3 second rule. I dont want to get in a situation where I have to use my weapon and my muscle memory is counting 1,2,3 shoot. Just me I'm like that I guess. Gripy old fart but a nice guy. He has called me down for breaking the 3 second rule a few times!

My wife and I made a trip out to HH for a nice, peaceful shooting. I didn't know what to expect, at first. I almost drove my truck up on to the range (idot) trying to find the parking area. I think it "per-terd" Don a little bit, which spurred him into quizzing me alot about shooting. After answering all his questions (I guess I suprised him) he seemed to really enjoy visiting with my wife and I (probably because of my beautiful wife??) Finally, we got out on the range to do some pistol shooting with my Beretta PX4 and her Taurus Mill Pro. Once we were finished putting some rounds down range it took us forever to get away, Don was really needing to visit and we didn't mind.

Great guy, clean range & nice place. One con I have, when Don would squawk out on his PA system we could understand what the old man was saying.

Went there saturday to sight in my new 30.06 had a good time, some poor guy who never had an AR before had issues he added a sling mount to the buffer tube and didn't thread the tube back in far enough, buffer, nor did he realize he lost the take down pin reatining spring, he jammed up and spent a bunch of time working on it, loaned his son a .22 and a box of ammo so he could shoot.

I don't mind the 3 second rule when doing something like sighting in a rifle as a matter of fact towards the end I was doing good to manage one shot every 3 minutes...

And he has spotting scopes for range use and does not charge a rental for them, But hiking out to the 200 yard line becomes tiresome.
