I tested a few hollow points in 1 gallon milk jugs today. To keep the test "scientific" I removed all the variables I could. For the setup I used 15 1 gallon jugs filled with water, 3 jugs wide, and 5 jugs deep. I shot straight into the middle row of jugs. All I really needed to test was .38 Special, but I took some other calibers as well. I also tested 9mm, 357Sig, and .40 S&W.

The guns I used are a S&W 642, Glock 26, Glock 32, and Glock 23. I know these all have different barrel lengths, but these are the guns I carry. I shot from a distance of 10 feet. I know these tests don't really prove anything, but it is fun to compare different loads in a test medium.

1. Winchester .38 Special +P 125gr. SJHP-USA38JHP
This round made it into the 4th jug. The 1st jug split down the side, and the back 3 jugs just had small entry/exit holes.

2. Speer Gold Dot .38 Special +P 135gr. Short Barrel-23921
This round made it into the 4th jug, and dented the back of it. The first 2 jugs blew up, then the round penetrated through the 3rd and into the 4th jug.

3. PMC Eldorado Starfire 9mm 124gr.-C9SFB
This round made it into the 3rd jug, and dented the back of it. The first jug blew up, and the round penetrated to the 3rd jug. The jacket separated from the core, but it stayed together until the last jug.

4. Speer Gold Dot 9mm 124gr.-23618
This round made it into the 3rd jug. The first 2 jugs blew up, and the 3rd jug had a large entry hole.

5. Speer Gold Dot 357Sig 125gr.-23918
This round made it into the 3rd jug. The first 2 jugs exploded violently, and the 3rd jug had a large entry hole. This round did something none of the others did; it knocked the 2 jugs resting on both sides the entry jug off the table.

6. Speer Gold Got .40 S&W 165gr.-23970
This round made it into the 3rd jug, and knocked a large dent into the back of it. The first 2 jugs exploded, and the 3rd had a large entry hole. This round also did something none of the others did. It pushed the last 2 jugs in line backwards, this would be the 4th and 5th jug.

I wanted to also test a .38 Special +P 158gr. HP, but I could not find it locally. I also want to test the Speer GD 9mm +P, but I will have to order this ammo and test it next time. Next time I will also test this ammo shooting through a layer of clothing first. This would make it really "scientific"!!!

YG brought these by for me to look at and the Gold Dots were truly impressive. Full expanison with no separation. The pictures do not do these bullets justice. At first, I thought they were off one of those bullet boards they are that pretty. The Starfire, well, I didn't care for the jacket separating. Very cool, thanks for sharing YG!

The next time I do some testing I am going to test some .45 ACP also. I also want to try some .223/5.56 from my AR-15. I don't know how well that will work, but it might be fun. Shooting anything other than paper targets is always fun, especially when you get a shower at the same time!!!

Ohh, I completely forgot something. I had some Corbon 9mm +P 125gr. in my range bag and forgot about it. I really wanted to see what it would do out of my G26. Oh well, next time...
