Does anyone make a 1911 Simunitions gun?

What is a simunitions gun, I mean what does it shoot, is it like a paintball? From some pics I saw of PSPs over at TPI, seems like they only make a tiny spot, where I think a paintball makes a much larger spot.

What does a simunitions round look like? Is it like a regular bullet, but with paint and maybe less powder? Does it actually work the slide or are they only single shot?

Does it hurt to get shot with one up close? Bad enough that it requires body armor for practice or is it like a big boy's bb-gun fight among friends. :thumb:

Enquiring mind wants to know!

1) Yes.

2) It looks like a bullet with a paint capsule instead of a lead/jacketed projectile.

3) Yes it works the slide.

4) Yes it hurts to get shot up close.

5) In our training only the role player is armored because he has to get shot all day. The trainees need the pain penalty to keep it from becoming a paintball/BB gun fight and keep a semblence of reality.

How far are simunitions accurate to?

How loud is the 'bang' compared to live ammo?

I've heard of people doing similar things with high-end airsoft guns, but there would be no real sound, very little recoil and they're only accurate to a short distance. The higher-end metal versions, gas blowback types will operate the slide and shoot semi-auto though.

If you were having a little simunitions "training" in an unoccupied park or something with friends, would LE show up with guns drawn?

The problem your going to run into is finding someone who will sell you the equipment. I don't think they sell simunition guns or cartridges to just anyone I believe you need to be certified in their use. Besides the simmuntion weapons are not cheap, you probably be better served by taking courses that integrate Force on Force using simunitions. Doing this would allow you use of the weapons and much more realistic training.

At least if I had my own, I could convert my 1911 and use my own gun for training, instead of having to use a Glock simunitions gun for training.

And it would allow me to 'practice' what I learn from training instead of only getting to use it a couple of times a year.

Plus, when my 12yr old gets out of line I can reach out and 'correct' him. :)

I believe I can purchase the conversion kit for my 1911, but the kits for something like an AR are usually military/LE only.

You would still have to find a way to get the actual simmunitions.

The kits and cartridges are for agency purchase only. Even individual LEO's cannot purchase them.

I am able to purchase them because I am certified by FX/Simmunition as an instructor and can provide documentation that I provide training to governement agencies.

Thus they let me purchase them.

Aww crap. Well that bites.

Do you have a 1911 Simunitions weapon(s) for students to use in training or only Glocks?

It WOULD be nice for people to have to allow practice between training classes.

Take Mike's CQT class!!! Even though you'll be using a Glock for simmunitions trust me you will learn volumes from the training and won't really notice or care that your shooting a Glock. Using the Glock certainly won't hurt your ability to perform. My wife made mulitple hits from 20+ yards while running backwards with the Glock simmunition guns! Wasn't really the goal of the training scenario but it made me proud.

Oh I plan on it. I wanted to take the one he had a couple of weeks ago but couldn't make it.

Great...its an awesome class. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to attend.

I feel your pain too...I'd love to have a simmunitions gun of my own to train with. Then again my clothes, cars, house, kids, friends, and pets would have orange dots splattered all over them.

I bet if you wash your hands real good afterwards your 1911 won't even know you been cheat'n on it.:lookaroun

Maybe you'll be in the next class I take to administer meds to my welts. :)

I don't know, my 1911 is pretty suspicous and obsessive. Always wanting to know where I've been, who I was with, where that lipstick on my collar came from...to which I answer "You should know, you were there!". :thumb:

But seriously, I really would like to have my own. I don't *think* its a law, just company policy. The simunitions company just needs a little competition, maybe from a company with a different policy (LE, Military or CCW)? :selfangel
