Does anyone carry a small J-Frame S&W, for a CCW? I have been looking for one trying to find out what they are running. Also ever carried on in a fobus Jframe paddle. I am not a big fobus fan but that holster actually looks pretty good.
Thanks

Fobus SUCKS. They rattle. Theyy have been recalled several times for basically falling apart. If you want to go cheaper kydex go uncle mikes without the thumbbreak. You might also check ebay. I have bought several high dollar holsters on there for a fraction of retail. I bought Krammer IWB and mag carrier made out of horse hide for less than the mag carrier would of cost. I got an Desantis IWB for around $28 shipped.

My advice is not to skimp on a holster.
when your life depends on it,you want the best you can get.

Well have you seen a kydex paddle, for a J frame or atleast something.
I agree Fobus sucks I have on for the range but that is it.
Just havet seen a big selection for Jframes OWB.

Comp-tac makes a Kydex paddle.
A leather belt holster is probably a better way to go.
Michael Brown prefers leather for carry because it 'gives'.
This can make the difference between retention and holster failure in a struggle especially when dealing with outside the waistband holsters.
I never gave much thought to this aspect but he is a very experienced and respected police officer, self defense trainer, state IDPA champion, and general bad-ass with probably more gunfighting experience than all of us combined.
When he talks about gear,I listen.

Also reference the "what's your daily carry" thread...I asked a similar question and along with Mike Brown suggesting Milt Sparks in leather, he recommended the Baramis Hip Grip (coupled with a Tyler T-grip and Hogue wrap around). I looked them up on line and it looks like a pretty decent carry system. Mike uses this set up. I would like to see it before I order, but if it what I expect, I will more than likely use it. BTW, I am carrying a Taurus 85 Titanium.

Hope this gives a little more info... :)

Kydex will retian its shape better than leather ever hopes too. I am not even sure if the Fobus is kydex, supposedly. The real problem is two fold first it tends to be softer than otehrs. Second it is a two piece holster held together with rivets. It tends to fail in that area especially with a gun grab. Kydex is all right for OWB. Inside the waistband
leather is the only way to go. It molds to your body.
Milt sparks does make good leather. We all have our favorites. I currently have Andrews, alesssi (SEVERAL), Desantis, Krammer, that I use often. I have a box of others ranging from sparks, hume, leather arsenal to god knows what. I am currently
looking at a Fist holster that has caught my eye. But really I have several that all do their job well. I prefer Iwb carry and all of them are secure and hide well or they would be in that box of holsters all ready.

To answer the j-frame question,I really like the little Scandium models.
They are not fun to shoot but they carry like a dream.

What MDT said about the set-up.

Doc, I stopped by Hillcrest the other night to show you the j-frame set-up but the said you were worthless and not working. :wink2:

Let me know when you'll be in this week and I'll try to drop by with it.

Also, highly discourage kydex owb for carry. We hosted a class this weekend that was mostly made up of force on force including full-power H2H. I think everybody there was convinced of the difficulties in kydex owb and paddles when their guns fell out or got ripped out.

I just got a 642 as part of a trade today. It has a belt clip attached so no holster is needed. Obvioulsy I have no "real" experience with it yet, but trying it on at home felt great. I could barely tell it was there.
