A friend of mine makes lead bullets that are about half the price of other bullets. He claims they are about a 12 on the hardness scale (straight lead bullets are about an 8). He is out of Agra, Ok and the company is American Precision. You can google the company. I believe they run about $20 per 1000. I don't reload, but that is a smokin' deal. Tell Pat I said hello.

ok, since the thread is started, I will ask the question. would you suggest running lead bullets (no jacket) through a semi auto? 1911 45? Sig 9mm?
Thanks!

I have reloaded thousands of cast lead 9mm, and .45s. Both are easy and fun. Shooting cast lead is not a problem in real guns, watch out for plastic toys with polygonal rifling.

Here we go again! Hang on boys!

You can find .45 loads that just barely cycle the gun. On a sunny day you can watch the rounds travel downrange. Not much reason to do this, just kinda neat.

Pat is supposed to bring me a sample box of 45s. I will disect them and have some loaded up for me and post how well they work. Several guys who roll their own at the gun club swear by them. I'll let you know.

Thanks! I don't have a reloading setup... yet! But when I do, it seems to be quite a bit cheaper to use lead. What about clean up in the gun?

With hard bullets it is not really any more difficult than shooting jacketed bullets.
