Okay here's my question. I have several boxes of the infamous Black Talons I bought some years back (9mm, .40). I have seriously thought about shooting them up to get rid of them and to get something out of them for my money. Not really sure I want to carry them because of their age. Maybe I could even send some to J.P. to shoot in his ammo eval/tests just for grins.
Anyone got the info on the reliability of ammo that age?

ammo keeps for a long time. DECADES if it is kept in a cool, dry place.

I have some 16 gauge shotgun shells that are 20+ years and they still work. They are kept in an ammo can.

Ammo will keep for a very long time if stored properly. I have fired rounds loaded in the 1960s that shot just fine. As far as shooting the Black Talons, there seems to be a collector interest in these rounds, you could sell them and buy a lot more new ammo with the money.
If it is stored at a reasonable temp. it will remain reliable for a long time.
I'll second the sell it instead of shooting it up thought. Since it was removed from the market it has a forbidden fruit status.

Ammo loaded in the 60s?? I have lots of 8mm, 30.06, and even some .303 british that was loaded during the war....some of the 8mm was loaded earlier than that. All but a few of the 8mms fire like they were new. All nice and corrosive too...just allows me to clean the rifles more. I consider my 1970s LC 30.06 and 1980s .308 to be new ammo.

Thanks for the info. I'll go throught my ammo cans and see how many boxes I have. I'll probably keep a box and sell the rest, no reason to waste it by shooting it if its not going to go bad any time soon.
