It's the latest fashion craze at the matches!
I think the most popular is the 5.11 tactical "Muscle Mapping" undergear.
I even saw one famous local IDPA regular (who I spanked again) wearing.......*gulp*....purple.
But hey...all the kids are doing it.

and you *know* who you are...
love ya',man!

I dont know why game shooters would be wearing it. For the police and military it allows body armor to float over the shirt so there is no rubbing action against the skin. It also keeps you dryer.

Maybe it is like the old tv show chips. Eric Estradas uniforms would show if he got a pimple..Maybe he is trying to impress someone. Or Maybe he is a walter mitty fantasizing about combat. Who knows. It is expensive to just wear.

Damn, I gotta get good so they can sponsor ME! I'd wear a rainbow body suit to Will Rogers park if they'd give me that S#1T for free!

Rainbow body suit??? You would need a gun in tulsa especially at the malls or parks........ :) :wink2: and probably a pair of fast running shoes.

Oh *hell* no!
I know you didn't go there...

*snap* *snap* (in a circle)
;)

You'll never *see* any spandex on this heterosexual IDPA competitor.
Besides,it would take more than 'muscle mapping' to make me look good in one.See...i don't have a 6 pack....I have a KEG.

I need to hide what's under mine not show it off..lol. It is comfortable, even though I have no "Tac-tickle" need for it.

Under Armor For People Who Are In Shape (like Round) Allow For A Quicker Draw Because Your Hand Is Less Likely To Get Caught In Loose Clothing.
For All You Gamers Out There, Give It A Try

Well that leaves me out,Eric.
I'm neither "in shape" or a "gamer". ;)

BTW,I actually *do* own a few Walmart knock-off versions of the T-shirts but I wear them as undershirts.

Hey Eric, I thought IDPA was supposed to be as close as you can get to practical street gear?

Trends like this are yet another reason I have resisted the urge to give IDPA a try....

SMS,

While I understand and appreciate your point, if you allow your desire to win to overwhelm your desire to participate, you have already lost.

Everybody has different motivations for shooting IDPA. Some want to win, some could care less. The good thing is that those who want to use truly practical carry gear have a competition to test their skills while doing so. There is no rule stating that you have to use "gamer" gear.

Use it as a skills test with what you carry and nothing more.

If an individual shoots IDPA solely for the glory of winning, it will be a disappointing venture. No one will know the best shooters in IDPA the way they recognize Jason White. No one fills up stadiums to watch shooting. I say this as someone who has won a lot of these matches, if winning is your motivation you'll be dissapointed even if you do.

Don't let the scoreboard (by way of your ego) deny you a good skills test. IDPA is generally not about winning. Its about testing your skills and meeting like-minded people.

My point exactly MB. I am not motivated solely by winning...so why would I want to surround myself with folks that are? I like to participate in events and hang out with LIKE MINDED people, not folks sporting the latest trendy gear and wearing clothes that look cool and give them an edge in competition.

I'm sure there are lots of folks who shoot IDPA that think the same way as me, but I'd have to suffer the other fools in the process. I might have to take a pass. I'll never say never, but stories like this might keep me away.

I really don't see it as surrounding yourself with people just out to win.
Not around here anyway.
There are like 8-10 *really* great shooters and then there are the other 30 of us (give or take).
Like with anything else,it's the shooter not the equipment that makes a winner.People just find things to give themselves an edge.
There are rules and as long as they are followed, everyone pretty much has a level playing field.
As Michael said though, make it about testing *your* skills.
Oh yeah...and have fun!

true enough....as long as the street guys outnumber the racers..I'd be ok with that.

J.P.
08-21-2005, 01:49 PM
Actually,I would say that there are more 'racers' among the lower 2/3 of the shooters.
See...it really doesn't gain them anything.

Michael Brown

Actually I think J.P.'s numbers are very conservative. I don't think there are that many really serious competitors.

The way vast majority are entirely recreational.

What I think many people refer to as "self-defense" shooters or "street guys" are really mis-named and are really recreational shooters.

An individual interested in true self-defense probably wouldn't worry about it because he's able to recognize the issues involved and will just do his thing without worrying about anything else because he recognizes that equipment and shooting styles are really minor variables in self-defense.

The real issues are much larger.

IDPA, like any recreational firearm activity, is not training and is not refelective of anything but itself and how YOU perform it.

Michael is correct.
I think he mis-interpeted what i was trying to say.
What I meant was that the top really serious shooters know that all the gaming in the world doesn't matter because it's what *you* put out that makes you win.
The people you see trying to 'game' are in the other 2/3 of the group. (not the entire 2/3)
But as Michael said, you really see more recreational shooters than anything. Most people are there to have a good time.
It cracks me up to see a couple of guys always try to bend the rules and bring all the game they have, and still get their butt spanked by a nobody with 'substandard' equipment. ;)
I really enjoy that. :)
In fact,it is one of the things I look forward to each match.

Michael Brown

I agree J.P.

I use basic equipment and practice basic skills.

And I do pretty well at these type of matches.
