It's a S&W 642 airweight 38special. Got it as part of a trade.
Not sure if I'm going to keep it or not. Never owned a revolver before, but I will admit that it feels good and is incredibly light and easy to conceal. It came with an additional hogue grip and a belt clip attachment for holsterless carry.
Anybody carried one of these with the belt clip? What are your opinions on it?
I think Mike carries a j-frame with some sort of clip,if I'm not mistaken.
The 642 is a very nice carry gun!

Congrats, welcome to the world of Smith & Wesson wheelguns! Load that bad boy
up with 135gr Gold Dots and you have a great carry gun. Never carried any gun
However I am considering getting a CCW permit and would love to have a 3" 36
or 66 for my carry weapon. Let us know how she performs at the range.

A friend of mine has a set of grips with the belt clip on his taurus. He loves to carry it as it is so easy to conceal and comfortable.

I suggest working with this revolver extensively before a decision is made regarding whether to retain it or trade it.
These revolvers are popular, and for a number of good reasons.

I don't know how comfortable I am with using the belt clip instead of a holster. Do you have any experience carrying this way?

I still haven't shot it yet. I won't be using it as a carry weapon until after I have the chance to put several boxes through it. I don't think it's good to carry a gun until you have the chance to test it for reliability, accuracy, etc and get comfortabe and fast with it.

I would be scared to carry with just a clip. I would rather have it in some sort of holster that protects the trigger. Thats me though.
I bought one Saturday from Academy. I plan to carry it instead of my SP101
Big difference in weight.

So far, I haven't had any problems. Nor have I heard any negative comments about. It seems unusual to have a gun in that price range that has so many people talking it up.

Which Academy did you buy from? Everytime I look at Academy it seems the only revolvers they carry are Rossi.
What do they have them priced?

The Academy on Walker/I-240 in OKC has 2 SW airweights. Both are $349.

(dug it up)
Everyone was right about the 642. I traded it over a year ago and had sellers remorse. All is well now since I have the 340pd and like it even better.

The belt clip is a bad idea. it is slightly better than carrying it WITHOUT the clip, but it allows the gun to move around too much. This compromises or eliminates a full firing grip, which is not a good thing.
The draw becomes a multi-step process:
1) find gun
2) adjust gun
3) grip gun
4) pull gun out enough to get a full firing grip
5) GET that full firing grip
6) NOW draw....
This presumes it didn't fall out of or down your pants prior to this, tho, and also presumes that the party that's causing you to draw your gun in the first place is: A) Very patient, B) Very stupid
If you're lucky, he'll have a sense of humor and you can shoot him while he's laughing at you ! :D
Holster that puppy in either a belt or pocket rig made for it.

I think you are right. I ordered a UBG holster for it and hope to recieve it in the next few weeks. Having a holster helps you keep it.
